Moving ESB pole

What is the process involved in getting an ESB pole moved?
I have a site with a pole slap bang in the middle, it carries 2 wires if that means anything. So it will need to be moved.
Who determines where it should be moved to? Is it just a matter of me saying I would like it in a particular location?

Ring up ESB, from experience when I wanted a pole moved 4ft to my boundary wall with my neighbor it was 3k (punts). ESB were paying half. I asked my neighbor would he go halfs with me but he declined. So I didn't get it done. Couple years later they upgraded whole street and I started to talk to an engineer and asked him can he move my pole to boundary wall. No problem he said, didn't cost me a thing.

If it's just a standard supply and it's your land and the pole is preventing you building the ESB have to move if free of charge. Happened on my site they can out and claimed it couldn't be done or if it was I'd have to pay. I held fast and followed it up the chain of command. Pole was moved and cables buried a few weeks later at no cost.

be interesting to know what will happen when we go all pylon-less and these cables are buried: will it sterilise building land and make them just suitable for wind farms instead:D:D

What would be deemed "preventing from building" as technically speaking it would be possible to build but looking out the front window there would be a ESB pole in the front garden.

I told them it was where I planned on building my shed. One way or another it's your land and unless the Esb have a right for access signed by you or the previous owner (this would also be registered against the title) you can have them move the pole or if they refuse seek compensation for them sterilizing your use of the land.

They moved one for me a few years ago and it cost me nothing .... except a wait of almost a year!

Bear in mind that there are different rules governing high tension wires on pylons.

That's why I mentioned standard supply. If they are high tension and they refuse to move they need to get an order from the minister to allow them leave it there and again You have to be paid compensation.

I recently got a high tension line moved from over my site. I just sent an email to to ESB networks with a drawing of the site and it was moved a couple of months later. There was no charge as they cannot block development. They also dropped a supply line so that we could have a dangerous tree removed, and the engineer said that they do that free of charge too anytime its needed.
