This morning coming into dublin I noticed an army jeep with two army officers out with a speed gun checking speed just before the station on the naas road. When did the army start doing speed checks?

You sure it was a speed gun they were pointing at you?

They have been at it for years. Only interested in Defence Forces vehicles though.

    They were checking army vehicles.
Maybe a few others out of boredom.

Its a new thing. Instead of penalty points you get conscripted if you are caught going too fast.

Often do it on the N7 near CityWest, would appear there is a test route or similar as I'd often pass a convoy of L plates before it.

A neighbour of ours was chased and pulled over by the guards for speeding years ago.
When he lowered the driver's window the guard asked him,
"Did you have any trouble bringing her down wing commander?"

Or were they just pleased to see him?

What's the penalty for a member if they are caught speeding by one of these checks?
