A car I'm interested in is already registered as a 161 but it has 10,000 kms on the clock. It is being sold in Mayo but the reg plate is Dublin. According to the garage, nobody has owned it but one of the garage managers drove it for a while hence the km's on the clock. Why does it have a Dublin reg though?

the likes of audi seem to register demos as d reg.
The registration cert will show the owners name and address.

It's also possible that the garage's company name has a Dublin address especially if they have more than one garage or franchise.

if you have garages in a few counties including Dublin it can make sense to reg in Dublin because when you've got a customer that will only buy a demo you can have a bigger pool of cars to choose from.
As discussed here people are funny about regs. a 161MO just won't sell easily outside mayo. (not just mayo. any county) as the "foreign" reg grabs as much attention as the 161 bit.
