Farming Concessions for the Government

I see the Agri specific points for the future government are on the IFJ website, this in particular is interesting
The development of producer organisations; “to ensure that farmers are not just price takers”. CAP reform specifically made provision for such groups, provided budgetary support for them, and legislated for them.

I wonder will this just be another quango or is there a chance for some real change and proper regulation of the market, how can they stop farmers from just being "price takers"

The cynic in me sees the funding just being sucked into a black hole by some selection of the inner circle through expenses :(

If l'm understanding you correctly _brian, l don't think this is anything new, as regards beef anyways . Details on how to set up a beef producer group along with all relevant forms have been up on the DAFM site for a while now.

Perhaps there is a few new strands to it?

25 years here in a producer group, and factories can manipulate price same as usual, they're certainly not the utopia 0f cattle/sheep marketing but they're handy,
Pricing and assembly for lorries organised so ideal for parttime farmers. have to say though one week with another I'd be happy enough, but have to be very particular with weights and fatscore, otherwise I'd be better off independent

I was thinking of something stronger, along the lines of regulation...

It's not just the factories that need regulation. The price of beef is very poor this year but head into supervalu or any of the rest of the supermarkets and the price of a steak hasn't dropped. We need a serious ombudsman or the like for the retailers and the processors imo.

Suppose they'll be no €200 a cow suckler payment.

FF as far as I know spoke about it in their election manifesto.

Prob gone with the wind now...

That's what I'm thinking of. Someone who can pro rata the work done at each stage of the chain and ensure the profits are split likewise.

Most of the beef/lamb/pork produced is exported, so domestic retail market has less of an effect on price that producers get.

But the domestic market is still a considerable section of the meat market and should be delivering a better return to the producer

probably correct. Local milk co-op are tight feckers. They expanded and made everybody redundant and then hired people back on zero contract hours. Workers only contractors so no pension/holiday pay/sick pay!

Are they actually a co-op though, or a LTD company.
