What's the protocol about this? Need to speak to somebody about a matter in Ireland but as i am currently living and working in Holland im not sure how to go about it. I take it that it'd be pointless speaking to a dutch lawyer?

If its a matter of sufficient size and scope there may be a large Dutch firm with an Irish qualified lawyer however I would imagine that there is large fees in connection with this.

Most probably you would have to come to Ireland and brief an Irish lawyer. From that point perhaps you could do all the work over the phone.

Would it be possible to make any initial contact over a phone or would i need to come to Ireland and meet one in person first?

You could make initial contact over the phone but I believe they would need to meet you (you would have to bring ID) before accepting an engagement.

Not a solicitor so guesswork but educated guesswork as there are similar regulations in my profession.

There's no reason many issue can't be resolved over the phone. You may have to be more forthcoming with the fee, however.

Is it about a matter concerning Irish law?

If so, contact an Irish solicitor, not a Dutch lawyer.

By all means, make contact by phone or email.
