    Hello boards ppl,

Just a feedback about an issue which is pretty awkward on my Opel Astra H 04 1.4 Lite.

Few weeks ago, while I was driving the control indicator (the orange one with the car and the wrench) was lighting up and then turned off after few minutes while I was still driving. No sounds or other lights were showing up at that time and I just thought it could be a bug.

Yesterday, the issue occurred again while I was driving but this time, the engine was strange noise as if it was coughing but after few seconds, this stopped and the light disappeared after few minutes of driving.

On Opel workbook, it mentions the following. "If it illuminates when the engine is running, there is a fault in engine or transmission electronics. The electronic system switches to an emergency running programme. Fuel
consumption may be increased and the driveability of the vehicle may be impaired."

A test on an OBD device didn't show anything abnormal so far.

So, first do someone experienced the same issue and if so, what can it be?

Then, does someone has an idea what could the engine do when the emergency running programme is going on?

    Thanks in advance

Only symptom I can speculate in this is engine is coughing which may be engine misfiring intermittently.

Misfires are generally caused by problems in ignition system components(spark plug, ignition cables, ignition coils) , so it is better to start inspecting those.

Problem being intermittent and no codes shown makes it harder to diagnose. I would check state of spark plugs first as it can tell you about particular cylinder where ignition system is not functioning properly.

    see guide below:

THe ECU might be faulty and this is causing intermittent problems

If this is the case the problems will get more frequent and the ECU will eventually stop working.

Where are you located? And what obd device did you use? Some only show current faults, whereas others show faults that are not longer current.

I'm in Cork. Regarding the test, we used a ELM327 Bluetooth OBD.

This weekend the issue occurred again while I was away. I brought it to a garage while the light was on and the only code on their OBD device (it looked like a Konnwei-KW809) was a code relating to the chain belt (which I'm dubious about it).

Unfortunately, it seems the Astra ECU is not storing a lot of codes or even clearing it because this morning, I went to my local garage and we could not find any code.

    Seems quite awkward anyway.

Well I changed the sparks and I thought the issue resolved as it didn't come back for 2 weeks.

Unfortunately, today it started again while I was driving again on the motorway.

I noticed that it always come up at quite high speed but today just before the light came, the car was literally shaking.

I found that some people had similar issue with air flow meter. Do you think this could be something?
