No, but I wish she did;)

If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.

Full time off farm and part time ferrying kids to hurling, football, swimming, parties, music and all the rest. Somehow then she manages to keep the house clean, do all the washing, cooking and a good section of gardening. And then they say the last generation of women were great.

Ha, ya I suppose you could say that. She would have to have endurance and the patience of a saint to put up with me.

OH works on farm for the same wage as the underworked 22hr/week civil servants. Something tells me she's not underworked now...

I think they are good questions. Gives an insight into ACTUAL farming life. And how much is needed to keep going!

    Here too.

But soon to change, OH is giving up work, so we'll see how that goes...

How does that make sense unless you earn far more than her?

Our kids are grown up but for about 15 years my wife jobshared. it is the best option. I think unless there is a huge variation in wages between spouses women prefer to be the carer as the emotional bond is strong. That is not to say as men we do not love our children it is just that women are more emotionally attached. They find it harder to go to work if a child is sick etc. People can call this sexist etc but I imagine there are studies that prove it.

I often wonder about this fad about working and farming. dairying is different but most drystovk farms can be ran on 2-3 hours/day and 6-10 hours at the week end. As well as kid get older they can take some of the responsibility/workload. I am not talking about slavery but rather check cattle stand in gaps etc. By the time they are 16 they can do nearly as much as you.

We have the farm near 14 years My better half job shared until 3 years ago during it as it was away from the house I did virtually all the farming lads are a good hand now. A lot has to do with facilities when grants are available put up sheds or handling facilities. A good crush is vital and if building a shed put a crush inside with the grant if you do some of the work yourself they virtually cost nothing

    Wasn't income related really...
I know you're kinda suggesting that it would make more sense for me to be at home, and so do a bit of farming during that time. But the income from the farm wouldn't be enough to influence any decisions really.

The honest answer Freedom is cos I couldn't manage at home with the kids, whereas she is looking forward to it.

I know that paints me as a bad parent... but there you go... :(
