Broadband speeds getting worse over time

Hi- Broadband (if you can call it that) speeds have deteriorated over the last 6-12 months from a whopping 1.8 Mbps to now 1.2 Mbps. May not sound much but it is a 33% degradation and is affecting me.

I have numerous times rebooted router , used filter or no filter - makes very little difference.
Router configuration tells me this :
Speed: 1600 kbps/256 kbps === whereas I remember this at some point to be just over 2000kbps/512kbps.

Can this be checked out ?

    Thanks
