If time and money were no object, what race would you run?

Me, I'd run the Tokyo Marathon, or the Seoul International Marathon.

Fukuoka marathon. I've got a lot of work to do. They only accept sub 2:40 marathon runners as qualifiers and if you slip outside 2:40 pace on the day, they pull you off the course.

I've zero interest in ultra running these days but still, Barkley 100 is 100% my bucketlist, dream race. Follow it every year online - with the dribs and drabs that come through online, been a bit easier the last couple of years with twitter feeds. Awesome race looks awesome.

A friend of mine did a shortened down version of it last September, the 'Barkley Fall Classic marathon' and he was unable to finish the 50k and just about finish the marathon (around 10 hours to finish).

Western States is up there for me. I'll keep dreaming. :)

I had a chance to run the Ultra Caballo Blanco in Urique 3 years ago but things fell apart at home and had to abandon but would have loved to do it.

Something about races like Badwater or Marathon des Sables appeals to me, not that I'd ever be able to do them. But in another time, another place, another body...I'd love to give them a go. Don't ask me why, I don't know myself! :P

The Wicklow Way Race,my 1st ever race was an imra race and I will eventually do this one.

Out of sheer #haterzgonnahate novelty and bragging rights value: Pyongyang Marathon http://pyongyangmarathon.com/

(Actually, it's not a whole ton of money or time involved for me, I might actually do it!)

I was only looking at the segments on strava for that Pyongyang Marathon the other day. It would be one surreal place to run.

I'd do it but, being Canadian it might not be a great idea. :P

Was going to mention that exact race, drove that road a few years ago, really spectacular.

Jeeze, if the only barrier is time or money, and it really is a dream race, why not just commit the time and money? Life is for living!

(My top dream races, the olympic 24 hour race, or even the olympic 6 day race, don't exist, which is why I haven't targeted them. Most of my dream races that I've had that actually exist I've gone out and raced. The only ones I haven't got around to have entry requirements that need to be hit (entry ballots usually, like Western States)).

The Wanamaker Mile. Finishing the last two laps all to myself with the crowd cheering me on. The stuff of dreams.

Edit: Would have to be the original mile on the shorter indoor track. No better atmoshere at any race anywhere.

Would that be because everyone else had finished two laps ago? :p

....ok that would be a close second for me. Dream race would be Fifth Avenue Mile. A couple of winning times were not that fast......

On a slightly more realistic level, I can’t think of any race in particular that would be a dream race. Being a sprinter, any sort of “dream race” would not be open to somebody of my level. However, dream venues are a different story. Through the media work I’ve had the great fortune to have run races (albeit over 800m) in some wonderfully iconic athletics venues:

    - Luzhniki Stadium – Moscow
    - Letzigrund – Zurich
    - Bird’s Nest – Beijing

It’s quite funny that I got to run in those venues while infinitely far far better athletes have not had the chance!

Running a 400m race in a local meet in Stade Olympique de la Pontaise in Lausanne was pretty cool too. That’s the venue that hosts the Athletissima Diamond League meeting.

The Bislett Stadium in Oslo would be pretty awesome to run in but without any major championship planned for there, it would involve me having to trek to Norway for some local meet that might be held there, which would be pretty ridiculous and expensive carry on let’s be honest. There’s no media race in Rio this year, but the Amsterdam, London and Berlin Olympic Stadiums could all potentially be added to the list in the coming 2 years. Hayward Field in Eugene would be another dream venue.

Well, speaking of the Bislett Stadium, I guess the Dream Mile would be an appropriate one for this thread. :)

I would like to run the Boston Marathon when I retire from the track and I probably will.

Morton Mile on a mild night in Santry. Running fast in front of a home crowd. A man can dream!

    The Boards Beer Mile. Someday....

On a more serious note, The Spine Race intrigues me. I've a feeling it could be hell on Earth though.

Same as it's always been, winning the Dunshaughlin 10k.
On a balmy summer's evening, Kenesia Bekele makes a surge near the end of the Lagore Road. I hold him off, and beat him in a sprint starting opposite the bottom of the field behind Maddens.
(Kenesia takes part because he's in Meath for the weekend. Always wanted to visit Tayto Park).

I'm intrigued about this one as well, not necessarily the 100 but the 50 mile or 50k option are nice too.

Badwater135 is my long-long term goal. My only worry is that if I completed it I wouldn't have another goal to aim for!

Would love to do the Honolulu Marathon again, and even more, the Antarctic Ice Marathon. The Ice marathon is an insane price, but if I had the $$, would love to.

No, I didn't drop something on my keyboard. There's an island called Grímsey off the north coast of Iceland. The Arctic Circle passes through it. There's a race on the island every September that involves one circuit (12km) or two circuits (24km) of the island. The numbers running are tiny - as in about 100 people. Participants fly out from Akureyri (Iceland's second city, population <20,000) the morning of the race and return that day. I would love to visit that part of Iceland and take in this race. The difficulties are the expense and the fact that the registration information is only available in Icelandic (Google Translate will be my friend!). Going by the names of last year's finishers, it appears that the only non-Icelandic participants may have been Polish people living in Iceland. Strangely though, one of the prize-winners was pictured wearing a jersey from Killany GAA club in Co. Monaghan!

Well you have to run 2x100 milers the year before the race, get going. ;)

Comrades is probably top of the list for me, with the Marathon du Medoc a close second.

It's actually a minimum of three now! My 2nd 100er of the year is next week.
