I asked about mild steel wire from my local suppliers and they advised me away from mild steel saying it stretches and causes slack on the fence ! Needs to be tightened regular and then eventually snaps ! Anyone using mild steel wire and what is your experience ?how long would it last? High tensile is a pain to work with! I just want one stand along a boundry! Good ditch at the other side so it wouldn't be tested just keep them off the hedge

I wouldn't take a present of mild steel wire. How is high tensile a pain to work? Once you have it wrapped around once it heats up and becomes very easily worked.

What are the issues with mild steel?

As per your local supplier....keeps stretching, can't keep it tensioned.

Once you have a Spinning Jenny to unroll the hi-tensile, no problem.

We use mild steel 12 gauge. Happy enough with it tbh. Easier to work with than high tensile. Tension on a cold day only once a year. If your tensioning regularly you prob have posts too far apart and you will be snapping it. A short spanner and a firm turn is plenty tension. If using more your just stretching it.

How long have to got with it to date?

GP get someone to show you how to wrap hi-tensile around an egg insulator, there is no comparison.

If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.

Can't say for certain but I'd say 10-15 yrs plus. Only prob we see with it is ppl putting a savage strain on it regularly and it necking. I know ppl rave about HT... but can't see da benefit of wrestling with it and it's great at pulling posts/strainers outta da ground.

If high tensile is pulling strainers then you must be using the wrong strainers.
