Car insurance quote cheaper for new customer than the renewal quote

I got my car insurance renewal quote and I've noticed that it's considerably more than what they quote me if I fill out the new customer application on their website.

Is there anything stopping me just signing up again via the website?

Nothing at all. Go for it. The handiest way is to get the reference number off the new quote & ring them with it.

This is my process every year the last ten or so years. You'd be a fool not to look around and even your own company!

Well my own provider is still my cheapest quote, but that's as a NEW customer, not a renewal. I'm just worried that they'll reject me if I try to sign up as a new customer when I'm already with them?

I do this every year. No problems.

    They just hope you're lazy.

If you're a bank of Ireland customer give their car insurance a go for a quote. Mine was massively less than my renewal and still a nice bit less than the nearest quote from searching a huge number of insurers.

I was having a look at a mazda3 2010 model on cars Ireland. Went to BOI to see what it would be to insure, it didn't give me a quote.
    Male, 32 6yrs driving, 5yrs NCB.
    2penalty points.
    Am I uninsurable ?!

Weird, maybe it's the penalty points. You can go back and amend stuff to see

Perhaps, I did it twice and each time it gave me a number to call them on.
Just looking to see what would it be if I did go for a mazda3.
    Chill.is cheapest was 832.
May need to start looking at smaller wagons!

    Hi Panthro,

We are sorry to hear you were not quoted online. If you like, we would be happy to arrange a callback to you to discuss this and get you your quote.

Maybe that car was an import or big engine?
