I know there are a lot of threads already on this, but...
currently I have an issue with finding insurance for myself.
I am 18 still on my provisional licence and looking to have a full licence soon enough.
the cheapest online quote I've gotten so far is 3750 on a 1997 1.0 litre nissan micra on a full licence with 0 ncb, for a car worth not even 500! its madness.
Id want to spend up to 2500.
hopefully someone can help me here.
please let me to know if you have a solution for this,
    thanks.

There is not alot anyone here really can do other than maybe advise you to ring around various insurance brokers who can try and get you a cheaper quote. Also look at the likes of Boxymo who offer discounts for installing a box in your car to monitor your driving. The other one is Aviva who offer discounts for taking lessons with them, etc.

BTW the value of your car has little to do with the price of your premium. You can do as much damage or harm in a €500 Micra as a €500,000 Porsche. The insurance cost is with the payouts to what or who you hit.

How much you want to spend is irrelevant.
All you can do is ring round the usual suspects and see what the cheapest quote is.

Brokers are always worth a twist and are easier to get advice from treating to getting cheaper quotes.

I'm not really sure where the insurance market is going regarding new drivers but it's scary to see these sort of quotes being thrown about.

Thank you very much on advice.
I have Looked at Boxymo, and they quoted me 2045, which is a lot lot cheaper and suits me needs.
but sad thing is they cant insure older cars :/.
looks like my micra has to go.
    many thanks bazz26.

do you actually have a 97 micra or is that just something you used as an example to get quotes on?

From experience in a Similar position as yourself, (young driver looking for insurance) stay away from older cars, try go 03 or above as Insurance companies don't like older cars and will often place a loading on them (higher premium) if offering to quote at all. Make and model also important as Loadings are also put on cars that are common among young lads (I was even getting higher quotes on VW Polo's!).
Best of luck, shop around, brokers probably your best bet as mentioned above, nearly every young driver I know is insured through one.

Oh, and definitely wait till you've got a full licence.

Thank you very much for advice I appreciate it. I decided I'm going to go with boxymo as they are the cheapest so far. I'm thinking of getting a 1ltr nissan micra year 2002/2003 or ford fiesta.
all that stands in my way is the dreaded test. hopefully ill pass it.

Micra is a solid enough car and unlikely to be too bad for insurance, if I remember correctly from when I was looking, rust is a thing to look out for on that era of Fiesta.
Have heard with Boxymo, that you get a certain amount of km's but you can earn/buy more if you need them, so also think carefully about what sort of milage you'd be doing. G'luck

Get quotes on something like a Swift or Alto, you often see relatively new ones for very small money.
