    I need some help/advice please..

I have a 20 year old washed pine( that was the name back then ) kitchen which I would like to hand paint.

There are about a dozen doors, half dozen drawer fronts and a few end panels.
The doors/fronts seem to have a fine lacquer on them.
I hope to paint them Ivory white

The question is what is the correct procedure. What materials will I need.
The doors are 20 years old but will the knots show through the finish coat.
Any other info I may need.

    Thanks in advance .
Ps. I would put up a pic. if I knew how...( Not good at the tekki stuff).

    Hi,

    1) Firstly you'll need to wash all the timber down. The best stuff is Krud Kutter. It's about 15 euro for a bottle that you spray onto the timber and wipe away.
You won't get it in B&Q or Woodies. You'll need to go to a builder's merchants or the likes..

    2) Then you'll need to give the timber a light sanding with a sanding pad or a sanding block. These can be bought in any hardware store. They're cheap. Get the 100 grade.

    3) Hoover everything with the little brush on the hoover.

    4) Next thing you want to do is take all the doors off, mark each one on the hinge with pencil where the door is for on the kitchen. Also then tape off the inside of the presses where the kitchen frame meets the inside of the presses.

    5) You'll need to prime the timber because it has been varnished/lacqured. The paint you'll need to do this is BIN Primer (red tin) . 1 litre should do you and it costs about 29 euro. It can be bought in most hardware stores.

This paint will also act as a primer on the knots to stop them bleeding in the future.

    6) Get a 2.5 litre of white undercoat . I'd recommend Colortrend. It's the best paint. It's also waterbased so the drying time is really quick compared to oil based paint. I'd recommend you brush into the grooves, roll the flat surfaces with a sponge roller, and then with a fairly dry brush brush off the roller marks. Give it 2 undercoats with a light sanding & dusting in between.

    7) Then get your desired colour in about a 2.5Litre can, again I'd recommend Colortrend waterbased. Give it 2 coats... Let it dry, reassemble the doors and enjoy your new kitchen!!

    Tools you'll also need along with the ones I said above;

    Harris brush set 8 euro --- http://bit.ly/1T1dF8q

4 inch sponge roller sleeves (get the roller and tray too) 10 euro ---- http://bit.ly/1SMjRyW

Great...Thank you very much for your very clear reply.
I can see there is a fair bit of work involved but I'm ready to give it a go. I hope to get started next week.
I may be back for more tips as I go along.
    Thanks again for your help.
