I was recently told ,since last December , that you must use a " registered" contractor to install sold fuel stoves , ie wood burning etc

Is this the case , is Diy not possible ?

I can't find any official regulations stipulating it must be a registered installer. I could understand if it was gas/oil/electric but not sure it would apply to wood stoves (unless it's part of an overall central heating system)

I just used a so called registered installer who claimed it was mandatory. He did a good job

This was an ordinary conversion of s sitting room fireplace to a stove

Did it cost you much for the conversion? Did he line the existing flue as well?

I could see where possibly a diy installation could be illegal. While you don't have the risk of exploration that you can have with gas and oil you do have a very real risk of carbon monoxide poisoning if not installed correctly.

There is no such register of solid fuel installers that has any authority in Ireland.
Any solid fuel appliance must be installed to current building regulations. There is nothing stopping you fitting it yourself but it must be to part j building regulations.
