Hi some advice I am changing a 5 year old car. Have an offer of getting a pre reg with delivery kilometres of 15 kilometres €2000 cheaper than a new car in colour of my choice. Pre reg available now and new car would prob wait for 162.

The pre reg is model I want just not 100% on colour!

    Any opinions/advice?

It it a good deal? Have never traded in before so not sure.

    Thanks

How good a deal were you getting on a new non pre-reg one?
Are you buying straight or trading in?
What's the total discount you're getting.
    More details on make/model?

There will be scrappage deals on some cars for 162 reg.

Why on earth would you spend so much money on something you are not 100% happy with??? A new car is an expensive purchase so get the one you want.

Colour is the thing you don't usually notice while driving. I would not fixate on the colour that much if the discount was significant...

In this case it is not and it is worth getting 162...

    Four simple reasons:
    a) some people are never ever fully satisfied.
    b) if one can be satisfied (theoretically), the market does not have it
    c) if the market has it, that person might not be able to afford something that would make them 100% content
    d) even if one can afford the above, throwing a money bag could be considered insane and would render him unhappy.

Yeah, it all depends on the deal. €2000 is a nice chunk of money. I wouldnt take "not 100%" as not liking the colour, more that the colour is ok. If you were looking at used cars, you wouldn't overlook a much cheaper car because of a colour you were on the fence about.

Saying that, if one garage has a prereg with €2k off, you can be sure there are more similar cars out there in other dealers that might be in a nicer colour,

Hopefully the OP will come back with more information.

The pre reg is €17450 less a trade in of €7000 for my own car (same model) so cost to change is €10450

New car is €19950 less trade in of €7750 getting more for own car off a new so cost to change is €12200.

    It's a hyundai 120 in a coffee.

It was registered at start of April.

Just worried colour would impact on trade in price in 4/5 years time if difficult to resell.

There is a scrappage deal do in for 162 reg on the i20. If your car has more value, this doesn't automatically equate to a better deal on your own car though.

The iced coffee isn't a bad colour in those cars, I think it really suits the i20 - and those type of colours are in fashion again these days.

Go to as many Hyundai dealers as you can, as I have heard some had creative ways of getting the earlier "trade and upgrade" deals on higher value cars.

€20k is a nice bit of money for a small car. What spec level is it?

I see the scrappage discount on a 162 is €3500

I20 1.2 deluxe is €17495 plus delivery and metallic. I would have assumed these 2 things only come to about €1500, so €19950 seems a grand over?

It's a diesel classic model. Country based and do a lot of driving so prefer diesel.

Have rang a few garages and getting similar quotes except one garage wanted 1500 more for a pre reg in black.

    It's a minefield.

Ah, the diesel is a nice bit more expensive alright.

TBH the deal doesn't look as bad now. Do you currently drive diesel or petrol?
Have a look at the Kia Rio too, same basic car.

    Currently have a Diesel.

Was also looking at the new mazda 2 in diesel they are a small bit cheaper. That garage had a offer on a smokey rose colour (a pinky silver) petrol.

Have a look at the fiesta. Ford are supposed to be doing great deals on them at the minute.

I often see cars on the road and think 'who on earth thought that was a nice colour'. Now I see someone would buy it to save a few quid.

€2k is not to be sniffed at, but personally I couldn't live with seeing a coffee coloured car in my driveway every morning. It's a completely personal thing however, so best of luck with the new motor whatever way you go.

Better than the "white sand" aka goldy beige one my parents bought anyway!

To be fair it's not bad - I was thinking of the goldy-beige..

Thanks for all the replies. Opted for a blue colour instead.

I was offered a demo model of my car for a significant discount wasnt keen on the colour.

I'd rather spend 100% and be 100% happy then spend 89% and not be happy. Its a lot of money either way so if you are not happy with the colour dont do it

The Ash Blue? It's a nice colour. Looking at (hopefully) getting a Tucson in the next few months, and it's either that or black I'd go for.

    It's called sparkling aqua metallic.
