I actually think Nibbles will win but my favourite to win would be Uran...he is one cool dude and a very nice guy

Tom Dumolin to spank Nibali for the win. Three ITTs. Nibali is good but not that good. Dumolin and the team will have learned.

    Uran
Mikel Landa to crash out in the first week.... Nico to take over leadership and win the Maglia Rosa! :D

I'd be pleased for Uran & his team to win definitely, though I would be a bit surprised. He seems to have become a bit less rather than more of a rider over the last couple of seasons.

Seems odd if the course suits Dumoulin so much - which it seems it may well do - that his talk for the season seems to have been more about the Olympics TT. If twas me, I think winning the Giro would mean far more - plus one or two little things go wrong on the day, unlucky with the wind in relation to other riders for instance - and the Olympics thing fades away fast.
Not though that I have been exactly following his build-up, & playing down his expectations & aims could just be a means of flying under the radar & keeping the pressure off.

Funny you say that but if you look at the SKY team for this race Nico probably has the best TT (I know that is saying something but in form its not half bad and esp on the mountain TT course )
Maybe he can be kept in reserve in he first week just in case anything happens

Also the course has only 3 really big mountain stage imo so if riding GC i'd expect him ot be high up enough , maybe high top 10 as he can hang pretty well on high mountains in form and do well on medium mountains ...this is possible with Nieve & Deignan riding as both good DOMs for Landa in the high mountains.
Depends on alot of factors of course and might be just as well if he loses time early as can go for a stage rather than lose it late (to help Landa) and miss out on a stage..same with Philip D

Voted Nibali, but would love for Dumoulin to do well.

Here's the Garibaldi (Route Book) for the race (29.6MB PDF file):
    http://static2.giroditalia.it/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/Garibaldi-affiancate_96_max.pdf

...and here's the Altimera Generale (General Profile) for the whole race:

Lots of spikey stuff there, and the third TT (Stage 15) appears to be straight up a cliff!

thanks Melodeon. I got the Italian version a few weeks back which has brought my language on no end.

I want Landa to win. I think Nico Roche can do an amazing Number 2 job on this route. Roche should love the parcours, very few finishes on the mountains. His TT has come on so I'm not overly worried and his form looks very solid - compare his riding in Yorkshire to Kruijswick, a top 10 certainty

The Cima Coppi stage will be breathtaking provided the weather holds, that's where Landa sticks it to Nibali and kills him. Just hoping he's not too far behind at that stage.

When are people gonna stop putting Uran in as one of the favourites. He's done nothing for years now and always has about 3 or 4 bad days in the mountains.

Carlton Kirby always says "i've a sneaky felling about Uran today" only for him to be dropped on the first climb.
I'd be suprised if it was any different this year.

He's come close in the Giro.... runner-up in '13 and '14.
But I agree, I can't see him winning it. A podium place maybe.... probably not though.

I wonde why BMC aren't sending Porte or TVG to have a go at the Giro. Surely a much more realistic aim than focusing all on the Tour.

So I take it there's no official guide magazine this year? Any other options for following the race route on the go?

Anybody know any info about the cut-off time limit for each stage?

I had a look at the road book (Il Garibaldi) but I couldn't find anything in there.

Just curious as yesterday (Stage 5) had a two-star rating, and Matthias Brandle and Matteo Pelucchi (both IAM CYcling) were 20'04" behind the winner Greipel. That's got to be not too far away from the time limit...

Isn't it normally a percentage of the winner's time?
    Or did I imagine that???

    It is.
But it's different percentages based on the difficulty of the stage. Each stage is ranked... 1-star is the easiest, 5-star is the hardest.
