Creaking Road Shoes

I use spd cleats with my road bike. Had a pair of Shimano RT31 for the last few years with no issues. Decided to get a second pair and upgraded to a more expensive pair of RT82 http://www.wiggle.co.uk/shimano-rt82-spd-touring-cycle-shoes/
They are fine cycling on the flat but on a climb when the pressure is on they creak on every down stroke. It is driving me crazy.
Anyone have the same problem and any ideas to stop it.

Hi there, I had the same problem few months back, and all it was in my case was the pedals had loosened ever so slightly. quick tighten and a drop of oil and problem solved.

    Cleats could be slightly loose?
Also, a bit of grease on the cleat contact points helps.

Thanks. Pedals are definitely not loose and there is no noise with the old shoes.
Clears are also as tight as possible.

Well at least you know the creaking noise is not your pedals or shoes. next, you need to check your wheels, saddle, seatpost, Handlebars, stem, headset and finally, the bottom bracket (its very rarely the BB)

Saddle is easy to check..if you stand up and the creaking noise is still there...its not your saddle or seatpost.

Wheels - some grease on the fork dropouts and make sure the squewer is tight.

Sorry but I think there is a bit of confusion.
I believe it is definitely the new shoes because when I wear the old shoes there is silence.
Strange because the soles of both pairs of shoes look very similar if not identical.

To definitely determine that it is the shoes, pour some water from your bottle over them (one at a time) the next time that you are climbing to see if it makes any difference.

Also try some furniture polish spray on the ratchet.

I had the same problem before, I took the cleats off and sprayed a thin film of white/lithium grease on the underside of the cleats and into the bolt holes, refitted them and cleaned away any excess, several months and so far so good !

Thanks AmboMan. I will try that.

Thanks AmboMan. Did as recommended. Good club spin today, plenty of hills and no noise. My sanity is safe.
