    505 Games Confirms Terraria Wii U Release Dates and Details

    Eight-player online multiplayer is in

    Terraria has made its way to the 3DS already, but due to the portable's limitations it doesn't deliver all of the features from the full-fat home console versions. The good news for Wii U fans is that firm release dates for the system's iteration have been confirmed, along with details on its various features.

    To start with the release dates, this one is landing at retail for Wii U on 24th June (Europe) and 28th June (North America). A key feature is the use of the GamePad's touchscreen for working on the environments, likely mirroring the 3DS functionality. In addition it'll have "several multiplayer options such as four-player local split-screen co-op and eight-player online multiplayer"; the portable version was lacking online multiplayer, so it's a welcome inclusion.

    With Miiverse sharing also touted the press release outlines the following features:
    • 14 different environments such as eerie dungeons, slippery ice wastes, wild jungles and more;
    • Hundreds of craftable weapons, armor and items;
    • More than 150 enemies ranging from zombies to armies of goblins;
    • Epic boss battles that test players' combat skills;
    • Vast worlds of exploration that introduce new potions, magic, gear and more.
    • Terraria has been a smash hit for original creator Andrew Spinks (and his studio Re-Logic), making a splash on PC before landing on a lot of platforms with 505 Games publishing. It taps into the sandbox craze, though is distinct enough in its approach to have won over a lot of fans.

    While we described the 3DS version as a 'downsized download', perhaps this Wii U iteration will give Nintendo gamers the full version that they've been waiting for. We'll see in June.
