VW EV could be 'cheaper than equivalent Golf'
VW's EV model could also have a range of 310 miles and a 15-minute recharge time

Welsch also revealed that a heavily revamped VW e-Golf will go on sale at the end of this year or early next year, with a claimed electric range of 186 miles, up from the current model’s 118 miles. “Cell technology is moving forward quickly,” he said, “and will move even faster in future.”

Just under 500km range sounds very impressive...
That's my tipping point. I would go EV if they could do that range.

Ironically I think that once longer ranges are more common , Joe public will settle the for shorter range models to save a few bob, when they realise the 300 mile journey is not necessary, just like Joe won't buy a gti now.

However the current possibility of flattening a leaf battery in less than an hour on a motorway will seem laughable. So somewhere in between will be the sweet spot, very much cost dependent of course.

Fair play to Elon musk for stirring the shîté , and the sooner we get away from depending on the Middle East for oil the better for everyone worldwide.

That range is a personal requirement for me. If I can do my regular run to London with just one quick charge each way, I'd be set. My local driving would fit easily inside the range too. The London run is 500km each way, door to door. I can do this return trip on one fill of diesel at the moment. There's no way I'm sitting at charge points more than once each way.

I'd pay for the longer range, that's not the problem. It's just that it isn't available at the moment.

Right, first the range quoted will be for the NEDC (European car company protection test.)

There's no point quoting BS range numbers without quoting battery KWH capacity. Even quoting their BS efficiency figures is meaningless due to the NEDC test.
15 min recharge time is based on setting a brand new fast charge standard using 600 or 800 volts, I can't remember. The charging infrastructure won't support this level of charging any time soon.

Cheaper than a Golf ? lol

They also didn't say whether these would be compliance cars destined only for the U.S to the Diesel emissions scandal.
