First time selling on eBay - concerned

    Hi all,

I listed an item on eBay a few days ago and received a best offer on my item of about €150 which I have accepted.

It being my first time selling on eBay I'm a little wary and I was hoping if any of you could please advise me of any pitfalls to watch out for.

The offer I accepted was from a bidder with a recently new account and has just 5 feedbacks (all positive) however they were for for small ticket items (less than a fiver mostly)

Now the buyer is in the UK and has sent payment via PayPal - I've checked directly via my PayPal account and they are a non-US verified account holder and it states that I am eligible for Seller Protection - I presume the address they want the item sent to is their registered PayPal address.

I have contacted the buyer asking them to confirm their address before I post out anything.

Because I am a new seller on eBay PayPal will not release the funds to me until after the buyer receives the item and is happy with it.

I really don't want to get stung by any scam so I will be making sure to post the item via registered post to the UK along with tracking and signature required.

However I'm being a bit paranoid, is there anything I'm missing that I could get caught out by?

I was thinking of taking photos of the product along with todays newspaper to show it was in mint / perfect brand new condition just before posting in case the buyer tries to claim it was damaged etc..

Is there anything else I can do to safeguard myself? Better safe than sorry.. I've read far too many horror stories on here!

    Thanks all!

First off, you're doing your due diligence so props to you there. Thats the best way to stay safe.

Unfortunately there's a scam where they buy a phone say properly, receive it, 3 days later claim it doesnt work and ask to return it. You say fine, they post it back, box arrives with a packet of chewing gum in it. Paypal still returns their funds to them and the scammer keeps the phone for essentially free. Paypal are buyer biased and its tough luck for the seller.

If you're selling something obscure-ish then I wouldnt worry too much, but contemporary smartphones/tablets etc I'd be very very cautious. Phones seem to be their primary target. Especially be careful of buyers willing to pay asking up front when they could bid lower etc.
