I'm currently looking to buy a mondeo, 2.0 ltr Zetec or something similar. I can see that it seems like they use a wet belt instead of a chain since 2007 and need to be replaced every 200,000 Km or so. Would i be right in saying that?

Also is there anything else major that i should be looking out for apart from all the usual's?

Wet belt setup is only on the older 1.8 TDCi which was discontinued in late 2010.

With the 2.0 TDCi watch out for the different versions of that engine and difference co2 figures as that impacts the motor tax rates if that is a concern. They got revised lower emissions in 2009 meaning cheaper motor tax than the earlier version. The Mondeo got a facelift in late 2010 and the 1.8 TDCi was dropped and the 2.0 TDCi became available in 115bhp, 140bhp and 163bhp. The lower powered 2.0 TDCi 115bhp engine was then dropped in mid 2011 by the 1.6 TDCi.

Zetec trim is ok but the 2.0 litre engine was sold in larger numbers with the higher Titanium/Titanium X trim.

Is high mileage much of an issue on the 2.0 TDCi's? I've seen a couple of 140bhp Titaniums about, but they all seem to have fairly high mileage.

It's a PSA engine so it's used in various Peugeot, Citron and Volvo models too. The usual stuff on modern diesel engines needs to be watched like the dual mass flywheel, injectors, turbo, egr valve, etc.

Make sure to check and verify the service history too, there are alot of cheap UK imported Mondeos for sale so verify that the stated mileage on the car is actually correct.

We bought a 2l zetec about a year ago. Have to say it's been a pleasure to own and in general a real nice car to drive. 140bhp is plenty nippy for the average Joe. Doing bit more than 50mph all in.

Only gripe is I have a bad back and find the seat a slight bit uncomfortable, but that's just me, herself drives it full time and loves it.
