Adding slugs to the compost

Have a Dalek composter in the house we bought two years ago. Emptied it this weekend and are about to start using it. Is it a good idea to dump slugs we find in the garden in there?

No, better to put them in your bin. If you put them in the composter they'll just 1) wander out back into your garden, or 2) be redistributed back into your garden when you use the compost.

Only be worth dumping slugs in if you get a properly hot compost heap going. Otherwise they'll just have a healthy snack and then wander out.

Thanks. I thought it might be a more pleasant way of disposing of them than squashing them.

Beer traps are the best solution for slugs. They die a happy death and you can then pour them into the compost as a useful contribution.
