    so I may be getting offered a job, the salary is lower than aticapeted and was advertised on their sit, I'm being hired through a recruitment agency.

    The position is a permanent position in New Zealand.

    My question is will I always have to deal through the agency regarding salary or can I negotiate directly with the company after a while to get a higher salary?

    I just feel like their taking the mick and milking me dry at the moment?

    Answer or advice will be much appreciated!,,

    If it is a permanent position then you would need to deal with the recruiter for initial salary negotiation - if you think they are lowballing just make it clear that you want more and are unsure if you will accept the position unless salary is higher (recruiter will get scared at the idea of losing the deal)

    If that doesn't work and its a permanent position then from the day you start all dealings are direct with the employer so you could renegotiate say after passing probation or hitting the year mark..

    As an ex agency recruiter I will say this - sometimes the companies will say 'oh I will pay up to X' then offer the role lower because they were only willing to pay the higher amount for certain skills, number of years etc so the agency might not be lying so just test the waters with the recruiter saying your unsure if you would have the quality of life etc so you need to think it over and is there any movement on salary... If there is more money there to use they will get it for you as there fee is a % of your salary so it is in their interest...
