Currenty looking to hire 8 wedding suits inc. page boy for Aug '16. I've heard & read great things about Richie Whelans Menswear in Naas. Have better quotes for same suits elsewhere but wanted to support smaller business.

It was suggested to try wedding fairs for best deal - is this true?

Any fairs being attended by R. Whelan before August?

Quoted €110-140. Informed by previous grooms/brides & read posts of €100 deals with page boy free at wedding fairs. Also, any idea what hiring the shoes as part of deal would be like? Ie quality/hygiene?

As a vendor myself who has advertised at fairs, mileage may vary on everything at the fairs.

you may get concessions and discounts but you need to be armed with info before going in to know for sure its actually a discount. You need to know vendor X charges Y and you know they're giving a discount at the fair.

Lets say you know the going rate after shopping around is 100e a suit, some other vendors at the fair are quoting 90e, but that may be their rate anyway, or they may bump their prices by 10% and give you the page boy suit for free, are you really getting a discount?

Get the list of the vendors at the fair before you go, get their best shop prices, then go to the fair. Its a buyers market at them though so dont be afraid to haggle.

You could try ringing the shop and asking will they be at any fairs over the next couple of months. I did this with a couple of vendors purely to see if I could see several at one time rather than having to go to a load of shops separately.

I used Whelan's for my wedding and I'd highly recommend them. They were so professional from start to finish. We had guys of all shapes and sizes and everyone was sorted exactly as we wanted. Don't be afraid to haggle with them, they might have a bit of lee way with the prices, especially since you're hiring 8.

I seen them in the Keadeen Hotels wedding fair in Newbridge.
