Did you pass/fail any subjects in your Junior/Leaving Cert?

I passed all subjects in my Junior and Leaving cert. I could have done better in some if I tried a little harder.
Every year we hear about the fail rate in ordinary/higher level maths being high. I was a disaster at maths and I managed to get a D1. In my exam I wrote down everything I thought was the correct thing to do and beside I wrote a note of everything I was doing(it was almost like an essay) I say it was one of the oddest exams that a corrected corrected. I stayed for every minute of the exam and attempted everything the people who I heard of failing subject generally left early and didn't give it much of a try in my opinion.

Passed everything in my inter. Nothing in the LC.

I got a D3 in ordinary level maths. I had a brilliant maths teacher, without whom I definitely would have failed. My brain just does not 'do' numbers.

Got an E1 in higher level maths in my JC. Passed everything else in my JC and LC. Looking back now both were completely worthless in how I got into my current job at my level and position.

All these D1, B3s etc are alien to me.

    We just had A, B, C, D, E.

Passed all in inter and leaving at honours level. If you failed maths or Irish you failed the entire leaving cert.

Many people do not write down even a partial answer and fail because there is nothing to mark. A correct answer will certainly give you full marks but any attempt is better than a blank page.

I passed every subject in my Inter and Leaving Certs (and got mostly honours in mostly higher level subjects), but still should have done a lot better than I did. Still, since there wasn't anything in particular that I wanted to do, I didn't miss out on a course that I wanted to do.

I'm 43 now, and still don't know what I want to do when I grew up...

I think that came in a year or two after I did the Leaving.

Failed Irish - and proud of it
Dickhead of an Irish teacher used to go on about not being able to go to university without Irish - I got into dcu just fine

I failed Chemistry and Biology. I shouldn't have been in either class. It was back when girls in particular hadn't any real choice about what subjects you picked. It's never really affected me.

Did all honours at JC. Got 2 As, 8 Bs... and an E in Irish. So I did pass Irish for the LC and got a D2. :) Feck it, I did well in all the other subjects so I could not care less.

    Passed everything.

From A grades in maths, accounting and geography to D grade in Irish.
I did get 39% in my mock higher level chemistry exam, but the teacher said that it was a third level standard exam and I would do fine in the real exam with a little study, got a C1 which I was happy with, it wasn't 39%, always wished the teacher had given me 1% more in that exam :pac:

I failed Accounting and obviously now I am ACCA qualified.

Failed Biology at Leaving Cert. All bar a handful of class dropped down to Ordinary level on day of exam. I thought I'd as much chance of failing that so stuck with the Higher in vain hope of scraping a pass but knew I had failed and left an hour early.

To counteract that I walked in to Economics exam which wasn't even taught at our school and got a Higher level C after flicking through one of those revision guides the night before :)

I got an A1 in my english and history, failed everything else. And when I say failed, I mean no points, my overall total was around 210 or 215.

I got a C in Irish for the Inter and an E in the Leaving Cert. I simply lost all interest in it. It seemed like rote learning giberish, but the life of a fairly harmless old lady on the cusp of death on a remote island was buille na tubaiste.

I'm married to a fluent Irish speaker and our three kids attend gaelscoileanna. I may have over compensated somewhat.

Failing Irish in the leaving cert at zero impact on me, and have a level 9 qualification - with zero interest in doing a doctorate.

I failed LC biology last year. Repeating the poxy thing in a few weeks time. :(
As for the JC, I got all B's and few A's, not that it matters. THE most irrelevant exam ever!

Junior Cert, I got all As on higher level papers.

Leaving Cert, I got three A1s, an A2, two B1s and a C1 on higher level papers, if I remember correctly.

Couple of As, couple of Bs in the leaving cert (I genuinely can't remember the level of As and Bs though I did get an A1 in Biology, sadly that fact is useless as a pick-up line). One D which was in Irish, my only lower level exam and a subject for which I barely even lifted a pen. I did eight subjects in total as one of the subjects I really wanted to do wasn't available as part of the normal timetable.

Despite it being a big deal at the time it now has little to no relevance what my marks were. I don't even bother including them on my CV.

I would have been much better suited to the English system of studying three subjects instead of getting dragged down by the other crap I had no interest in

Failed technology for the junior cert because I never bothered doing the practical project.

Failed maths in the leaving because I was just never interested. Annoys me now because in the years since I have become pretty good at it.

I'm 36 and haven't a clue either! For the record I got a D2 in leaving cert maths and that was an absolute miracle. I was useless at maths anyway, but the fact that Sr X was the worst teacher I ever had didn't help matters, and when I say 'worst' I really mean it. There were 24 of us in the class and 20 of us were going to grinds.

I passed the school gate on the way to the bookies the morning of my LC Irish exam.

Or Sir X had 20 dozy Y's in his class :p;)

Passed all my A levels but if I tried harder for one subject I could have gotten higher.

Passed everything, was doing 3 honours in LC but dropped down to ordinary level in all of them. Knew what I wanted to do and could get it with ordinary level. Figured all ordinary level would look better than having one possible fail, which was very likely as I wasn't in class from before easter till I walked into the exams.

I got mostly D's in the Junior cert and probably only passed because of the extra marks for doing it as gaeilge. Only exception was an A in Maths, and a B in Irish (if I remember rightly)

11 As at Junior Cert, 4 As, 2Bs & a C at leaving Cert.. Peaked too soon!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,833 ✭✭✭CFlat

I got a couple of honours in the Inter Cert, got none in the Leaving Cert but did get a 3 or 4 passes on honours paper. Got a complimentary honour in Maths.

I don't know anything of this Junior Cert or A1s B1s you speak of and when I went to school if you get 210 points in your leaving cert you would have gotten to do 10 degrees in Medicine!! Mind I could be wrong about that, as I wasn't too great at maths, as you can see.

Can't remember over the last 30 years where I used my Leaving Cert for anything work related.

I'll get back to you when I've done my Junior Cert.

Pulled out my cert to check.
    Leaving Cert 92
    OL irish B2
    HL English D1
    OL Maths A1
    HL German D1
    HL Physics C2
    HL Technical Drawing D1
    HL Construction Studies A2

Had my bases covered as I had applied for an electrical Apprenticeship based on my Inter Cert and had looked for civil engineering in Cork RTC ( CIT)
Turned out a week before the Leaving I was accepted for the apprenticeship. Didnt give a toss really going in to the exams. Bloody German teacher shunned me on the day of German exam when I told her that I was doing apprenticeship.
Worked out I got enough points to do the civil engineering as well so i was happy enough.
I'm farming with 22 years and have no exam done on the subject, just experience and reading.
