Eurosport is not on Saorview and is encrypted on satellite.

what if i cancel the sky subscription but keep the sky box. would it work then? or do none of the channels work once you cancel the subscription

Many channels will work but, unfortunately for you, Eurosport requires a subscription.

Depending on your particular interest the German Eurosport is FTA on Astra 19.2.

BTW you mentioned Channel Four in your original post.

That channel is not a "Sky" channel; it is free to air - including HD - and is not crippled by geo-blocking when you rid yourself of an Irish subscription (assuming programmes are still geo-blocked).

would i have to buy a special box to get that?

Any FTA receiver would get it; the main issue would be your dish which would need to point at Astra 19.2 E :)

Yes, you will need a new box. A non subbed Sky doesnt have RTE's Tv3's etc. Sky boxes dont do disecq either.

Any Satellite & terrestrial Combo box will do both (the Ferguson ariva's are fairly simple and cost less than €100).

It has a built in tuner for the RTE's (which you connect a house aerial to) and it has a satellite tuner for the satellite channels. You can combine all your favourite channels, satellite and terrestrial, in one list)

In order to get 19.E (in addition to 28.E which has the Ch4 BBC's ITV's etc) you will need to add a bracket and LNB onto the existing LNB on the dish. You will also need a diseqc switch which will allow for the switching between satellite positions. Its seamless and would cost you about €8 for the lnb, €5 for the switch, €8 for the bracket. You also need 2 small lengths of satellite cable with F connectors to junction the lnbs on the dish and the diseqc switch.

    No :)

Then again if you cancel your subscription you won't get RTÉ anyway as it's encrypted at 28.2.

ill cancel the sky and get a saorview. TnaG have the tour de france and perhaps some other races. Then ill just stream eurosport off the internet and the man utd games as well.

    thanks anyhow for your replies.

When you say get a Saorview what do you mean?

A Saorview box ? If you are going to get one of them you might as well buy a combo box as they have a satellite tuner built in as well as a tuner for Saorview. The difference in money is probably about a tenner. .You can use your existing satellite cable and dish and get all the BBC's too/

You may also wish to check whether your current TV has a built in Saorview tuner. Most flat screens made since 2009/10 have them. You just need to connect an aerial and scan the terrestrial tuner.
