    Hi

I was told you needed a minimum of 7 acres to get a Flock number. But I have looked it up here https://www.agriculture.gov.ie/animalhealthwelfare/animalwelfare/registrationofpremisesanimals/ and there is no mention of a requirement for acreage.

I looked through a few posts on Boards but nothing mentioned acreage.

So apart from number of animals per acre guidelines,

Is there a minimum number of acres you need to get a flock number?

    Thanks

I think there was something about couple of acres in some piece I read a while back but it's a more likely that the inspector will be looking more at shelter and adequate fencing etc. If you want to keep them in a shed or a small patch of ground, just be able to say where you'll purchase winter fodder etc or if you plan to rent grass in a certain area.

Wasn't there lads that had no land apart from their back garden, getting a herd number for a few hens, so that they could get commercial tax on their jeep?
