Having Box of 'household goods' shipped back from the 'States

    I've been in the 'States with work for 5 months (other than 10 days back home in between times). Work have agreed to ship a box of excess items back home for me. I'm just wondering if I will run into any difficulties with customs on this? i.e. will they be looking to apply duties. 95% of the items are clothing that I would have bought in the U.S. It would be a logical assumption that I bought them in the U.S. as I didn't come over with them. Most of them have been 'used' - none of them have any tags on them.

    I also want to address to a family member as I am not likely to be home before box arrives (and there wouldn't be anyone at my address to take delivery). Again, is this going to cause any issues with customs (i.e. are they going to assume the goods are destined for the addressee?).

    How many bags are you bringing? It may be easier to bring a bag of "sports equipment" and have the company pay for that instead. That way its part of your personal allowance.

    The box will be fedex'ed back to Ireland. Its just one box - 6 sq. ft.

    On the paperwork you describe it as "Transfer of residence - personal used items". Fill out an inventory of everything going into it, and take lots of copies. Put one copy inside the box, give one to Fedex in the US and one to Fedex in Ireland. Should be OK as long as there's nothing new in it.
