I started wearing contact lenses 2 years ago and they are a godsend, I love them, I always hated wearing glasses. A year after getting the daily lenses I was told by specsavers that I needed a yearly contact lens check and they couldn't give me any more lenses until I had the check up. That's fine, did that. Another year later they told me I needed an eye check up every 2 years and they couldn't give me any more lenses until I had the eye check up, it's the law!! Fine, did that. At the eye test yesterday the optician asked me if I wore glasses and I said no, so she said they can't give me any more lenses until I buy a pair of glasses, now enough is enough, talk about a money racket. Has anyone had any dealings with Specsavers and came across this? And can you get a copy of your prescription from them and get lenses on line, I know they are cheaper on line.

The packaging on your lenses will tell you all the information you need to go online and purchase.

This is not a Specsavers "racket". Contact lenses are not designed for full time continuous wear and use for numerous reasons, mainly the flow of oxygen into the eye. On phone but if you Google contact lens overwear you will see a long list of complications, some of which render people unable to wear contact lenses at all.

If you have no glasses it confirms you are solely reliant on your contact lenses are likely to be over wearing them, duty of care means that the optometrist cannot ethically give you contact lenses knowing this. While you could pick up a pair of 29euro glasses in specsavers, satisfy this and never wear them, it covers the duty of care that the optometrist is bound by.

There's a deal on atm where you get a free pair of glasses with your contacts in Specsavers.

I've needed to have my eyes checked and although I got plenty advise NOT to go to Specsavers, I ended up in Specsavers Grafton Street back in April 2016. At the time I was a bit surprised of their service, their welcoming friendliness was none to me or to other customers, very rude I would say but perhaps I got used to dealing with nice, professional people, well I said to myself: 'that's fine, you will be only few minutes in this place and please understand that they are working under pressure'. My eyesight was checked and I was told that I would be referred to an X hospital for an eye surgery and I should received a letter from the hospital, fine until there. Now, September 2016, I was wondering why is it taking so long to get news from the hospital? well guess what? I went to Specsavers Grafton St. and I was very disappointed again! :-(, the people who work at the front desk were so rude, when they speak to you they raise their voices! awful!!, perhaps they have hearing problems? could be? or perhaps their background is to speak loud and in a way which is not polite at all. I just couldn't handle anymore and I had to request to speak with someone who had more experience and a lady came, she was different, professional and helpful. However the news were not good for me..., back to the referral letter, according to Specsavers it was faxed to the hospital but likely that the hospital didn't received the fax or it was mislead. Terrible Uh? Watch out!! if you need referrals, Specsavers is fine with checking your eyesight and prescriptions, that's all, more than that, my impression is that they can't handled. Perhaps other branches are fine but Grafton Street no no no...very poor. Sad.
