Modem too far away

My TV is just outside the wifi signal that is produced by my modem. I bought a wifi extender that didn't solve the problem. I put the wifi extender mid way between the modem and the TV. The wifi extender knocked out the internet for everyone in the house leaving only the rebroadcast weaker signal from the wifi extender which didn't solve my initial problem anyway.

I'm thinking about having my phone line which is connected to my modem moved into the TV room. What would be the best way to go about haing a new phone line put in and is it expensive? I asked vodafone (my internet provider) technical helpline twice but somehow they managed not to give me an answer and start talking about something completely different until we hung up.

Why not just use homeplugs and hence no messing with WiFi? I assume its fibre you have?

It's fibre. I tried the homeplugs. I assume you mean powerline wifi extenders. I've tried twice and it left me unable to access my Vodafone broadband. I had to ring up vodafone twice to get them to reconnect the wifi. I might revisit again in case I'm doing something wrong. It's a straightforward set up. Maybe my modem isn't compatible. It's pretty frustrating. I bought the modem in harvey norman as a spontaneous buy. I later saw the same model on amazon for half the price. I normally research everytime I buy but got stung this time.

Why did you switch from the VF modem/router? And what is the make of the current modem router? What is the make and model of TV? It looks as if VF have your phoneline and to re-site the router is tricky as EIRCOM usually use the main point ie hallway. Is your house very new and have you thought of running a long lan cable to tv?? To get line moved is long winded and EIR will have to do it, call out is about 100 euro plus labour etc.

Rest assured, you're doing something wrong.

That's good news though, because that means you already have the equipment you need.

Homeplug/powerline ethernet whatever you want to call it is exactly what you want in this scenario.

Does the TV have an ethernet socket (like what the back of the Vodafone router has)?

I'm using the ps4 to watch netflix on the tv. There's an ethernet connection on the ps4. I was hoping to connect an ethernet cable to the back of the sky box too. At the moment I can't download movies to the sky box. I've yet to retry using the powerline plugs. I'll let you know if it finally works.

Move the modem and you lose all support form Vodafone/OpenEir. If powerline doesnt work run Ethernet from your modem to the TV.

You're confusing wifi extender and homeplugs. I'm using homeplugs I bought from the freetv site. They come in pairs, you plug one into the wall beside the modem and then connect a network cable from the router to the homeplug. That sends the internet around the house using your existing house wiring. Beside the tv (in my case) I have a 3 port homeplug. From this 3 port point I have a network cable to the tv, the sky box and a cable to another sky box. It works perfectly.
