So de man o de peeple, with his €87,000p.a. plus expenses, applied and was granted free legal aid, free meaning the tax payer pays, to pay for his legal team to defend himself for his stupidity in Jobstown.

Should he declare what he does with the rest of his salary that he claims not to take home, or actually use his bleedin salary that we're already paying for?

Edit: I guess we'll be told to play in the Politics Cafe and we get there we'll be greeted by the closed sign, and we'll have to go home with our balls.)

Perhaps he doesn't believe what he did at Jobstown was stupid?

Perhaps he doesn't believe what he did at Jobstown was stupid?

And that's relevant to him getting legal aid how?

It makes perfect sense for a Socialist to want to socialise the payment of his legal fees. :)

Why did you say it if it wasn't relevant?

If he is entitled to legal aid, he will get it, if he isn't, he won't.

If you have a problem, take it up with the awarders of legal aid?

Regardless of his beliefs do you honestly think a millionaire who also earns a massive wage should get free legal aid? One wonders what your position would be if it was a FF/FG politician who had applied for and been granted FLA.

Maybe he's doing a social experiment as to how the rich get richer, and this is how.

I wonder has he based this scam on one of his many lectures on how the rich can use tax avoidance methods.

    Again, how is it relevant?

It must be 'relevant' it was in the OP.

Truly odious little troll of a man , earning nearly €90k a year and still scamming the system.

His supporters wont care though , lets be honest most of them are ripping the social welfare system off anyway and couldn't give two short ones for the tax payer.

Whilst I have no love for Paul Murphy do you have any idea of how much engaging a legal team costs. He has to apply for legal aid and if it's been granted then the powers that be have agreed that he doesn't have the means to fund it himself.

How the hell can someone that earns €87,000p.a. plus be entitled to legal aid?

Red Paul who claimed €1,343,117 in salary, expenses, staff costs and various other outgoings as an unelected MEP? Ah no, he's broke. Sure didn't he have to sell his pad in leafy Dublin 16 to move to the leafy Dublin 24 suburb of Kingswood...

The man made over a million quid before he even became a TD, would love to know the threshold for what is considered too poor to pay for your own legal eagles.

I'd say the judge that decided whether or not he was entitled to FLA is better suited to do so than the easily outraged mouth breathers of AH

He has chosen not to have the means (I don't know if he has his million Plus from when he was gifted the job of an MEP by Joe Higgins).

He earns enough to cover his fees, why should the tax payer pick up the tab when he chooses to donate the money (his claims) to someone else?

I can't wait to see his legal bill, mash it into his face every time he then whinges about not enough money being spend on this and that.

Insightful and intelligent. Do you cool people have a newsletter we can sign up to?

But in your hurry to try post and thanks whore, you're missing the point that the problem is that he had the gall to go look for it, not because he was granted it.

Does he still have it though? Again it is up to the authorities to vet if someone is entitled to legal aid, in this case they have said yes. I'd rather they gave him legal aid rather than refuse it so he doesn't have a case for any appeal should he be convicted. I want him to spend time in prison myself.
