    Hi all,

    1) spoke with a member of AGS yesterday & she assures me that all new recruits are on 5 year contracts with a job for life no longer a perk. Is this true?

    2) is the Traffic Corp a difficult area to enter should one be successful in the future?

    3) when is the next recruitment campaign to be expected?

    Thanks in advance.

5 year contracts is highly unlikely and I would question your source. It wouldn't make sense to spend 8 months training us in the college followed by more on the job training just to let us go after 5 years. Traffic corps is like any other specialist unit...it is hard to get into depending on the amount of spaces to be filled vs the amount of people applying for the positions. I supposed its all relative though

Its 30 years for all new recruits. Dunno why she'd have told you that.

Yeah I was taken aback to be honest!

She was negative about the whole thing which wouldn't inspire people like ourselves that have a longing desire to serve the public.

She has 30 years service done & that's a point she pushed hard when I spoke with her re the job in general.
It would make me think again if that was the situation.

It was rumoured that 5 year contracts would be brought in but it never happened. At orientation at stage 2 recently we were told 30 years and I believe it says 30 years in the booklet when you apply

Considering the generally bad working conditions a job for life is the least you should recieve.

I think its a job for life but to recieve the pension you must have a minimum of 30years service. The 5year contract just wouldn't make sense in my opinion but in saying that i'm not the one in charge

The five year contract has been rumoured since 2002 - it isn't in place at the moment and, if it were; the Public Appointments Service as well as AGS would be informing applicants of same.

The Traffic Corps is one of the many units that have been hit hard in the organisation. Their numbers have decreased from 1,200 to under 750 in a few short years. This will probably continue until they get more boots on the ground but unfortunately even the current recruitment isn't making up for those who are resigning and retiring at the moment.

    It could be a while..

    .

That's a serious enough loss in manpower for one unit. 750 to encforce traffic legislation for the whole country? No wonder there are so many going around with no insurance/tax/nct.

If the government was anyway smart they'd actually save money if they had more traffic officers implementing fines, court appearances and bans for drivers not paying the relevant taxes that come with a car.:rolleyes::rolleyes:

just seen the late late show interview all about garda resources and it does not look good for the organisation. I think if funding is not gotten soon something big is gonna happen..

An all out strike is needed to make the government realise that's there's a need for a major correction within AGS.

The force needs to be louder & push hard for the betterment of all involved and also those that want in...

Be careful with the 30 years. If you're under 25 years old you could end up doing more. Since 2004/2005 to retire all entrants must both have 30 years service and be a minimum of 55 years old.
