Unable to use Revenue Online facilities

    Looking for some advice please.

Received a letter from Revenue in Nov 2015 regarding an underpayment of tax in the amount of €154.47. In the letter, it stated:
    Revenue wrote:
If I do not receive a claim for additional tax credits on or before 31st December 2015, it is my intention to issue a PAYE Balancing Statement to you for 2014 confirming the liability as indicated above.

Given the amount involved, I decided not to claim for additional tax credits. Received the Balancing Statement and thought all was good.

However, recently, I signed up for 'myaccount' on the Revenue site. Received the Pin and logged in but when I went to 'PAYE Anytime' I received the following

I queried this online with Revenue and received the following reply:

    Hi XXX,

You will not be able to use our Online facilities until you reply to our letter dated 27/11/2015 which my colleague gave to you when you were in our Public office on 16/03/2016.

    Regards

Revenue Dublin City Centre/North City PAYE

As stated above, there was no need to reply to the letter. I have again queried this with Revenue, 7 days ago, and have yet to receive a reply.

Can they legally restrict my access to my online records? also
Can they knowingly apply a 'non-resident status marker' even though they
know this to be a completely false label?

    Appreciate any advice.

Give them a call and talk to them. Revenue don't deal with e-mails very well.
Or else just respond to the letter. It looks like you owe them money which they are in no position to recover

What i'd imagine happened here was, the 2014 underpayment was put against your current year tax credits, i.e. reducing them by the amount of underpayment, which means you pay back a little bit of the underpaid tax through your wages each week/fortnight/month.

The knock on effect of this is, it blocks your access to both the 2014 & 2016 tax years, to prevent you making any amendments to these years that would knock the balance of this arrangement.
