Traction control issue after tyre change

    hi all

I had a bad puncture and the tyre was ruined and had to buy a new one.

I went for a relatively cheap one as that was the situation I was in at the time and am replacing it this month.

Since the garage changed it I've found that I have some wheel spin if if I accelerate anyway even moderately hard (like pulling out at a busy roundabout) and I've had a couple of skids when braking at low speeds at lights

Is this purely down to the cheap tyre or is there any abs/traction control sensor which could have been moved or damaged accidentally?

    What make is the tyre?

Probably the worst of all worlds having one cheap tyre on one side and a good tyre on the same axle, results would be unpredictable. Is there an ABS or traction control fault light on?

I'll have to check that one later. Cheap enough anyway

Just the usual traction warning when the tyre slips but no permanent warning lights.

I'm happy enough if it's the tyre. I plan to remedy that.

I just wanted to know if there was a possibility of another issue which I would need to get addressed when getting the tyre changed.

Out of interest would you recommend any particular tyres (45R18)

In the real world, it's probably the tyre.

In the world of people who love the cheapest possible tyres, there is no ACTUAL difference between your tyres... but the positive marketing of brand name tyres and the negative opinions on chinese nylon pretend tyres creates a flow of electrons that throw out your ABS, EBD, TCS etc.

You could check the tyre pressure is correct to rule that out.

Look at what's already on the car and if you have had no problem with those consider same brand/model again.

You've bought a tyre made from plastic, instead of one made from rubber.

You'll find that if you have to brake in an emergency, you'll slide for a lot longer than you would if you had real tyres on. I'm sure that the child you'll have just knocked into the next parish appreciates the few euro you've saved, in a situation like that..

Have you checked that it's fitted correctly. It's not unknown for the tyre to be on the wrong way and grip would be affected by that, though it is most likely just a cheap tyre.

Hang on a sec, why do you need to pay a garage to tell you that you bought a chea tyre which doesn't offer the same traction as the other tyre and triggers your TC light at times on harder acceleration????

First of all its a new tyre which needs time to 'scrub' in before it offers its full grip and secondly it's a cheap tyre which is most likely made from a harder compound which will not provide the same level of grip as the other tyre.

Dont pay a garage to tell you that, go and buy a tyre that matches the other tyre unless that is the TC light comes on and stays in, in which case it's most likely a sensor problem.

Going in for something else anyway so going to ask then

switch it onto the back will help (slightly)

Take it off and put a decent tyre on befor you slide into a ditch.. or the back of another car.. or worse again if you knock someone down because you can't stop fast enough.

Why is there an explanatioin even needed?

    Car fine
    Get puncture
    Get a useless tyre fitted
TC light suddenly coming on when trying to move off after tyre fitted
    Difficulty in stopping.

And do not move it to the back. Get rid of it.

Have to change two tyres on my own car so did a little online research. Am going for Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3 - supposed to be the dog's you know what. Great grip on wet and dry, extra mileage, low noise/rolling resistance etc. - according to users reviews. A little on the expensive side for the size I want (€135 each), but if the wear and resistance info. is correct then I should make some of that back. So if you want a recommendation there it is. Tyres I'm replacing are Bridgestone Potenza S001, which came with the car. Got almost 30k out of the front set, rears still have a good bit to go.

Is the replacement tyre definitely the correct size?

Are the other 3 tyres definitely the correct size?

    What make/model/year car?
