Employment Contract

Apologies if this is the incorrect format but need advice on work contract.
I was given a 12 month fixed term contract until Dec 2015 and in September was asked if I would like to renew it. I agreed to this but despite asking on multiple occasions, I did not receive an updated signed contract.
I have now been offered a permanent position and HR have told me that my terms and conditions will not change.
Do I have any recourse here or negotiation as I have not had a signed contract for 5 months?
    TIA

Verbal contract is fine and if that's based on your original contract then that's fine, you have no right to a written contract other than a statement of terms of employment within 2 months of employment.

You've been offered a job. You always have room for negotiation when you are offered a job.

The company policies may be that they don't negotiate on any aspects - but most expect to negotiate on salary at least, and many negotiate on other things too.

I cannot see how not having a signed contract for 5 months would make a difference

Even if you want the start-date of your permanent position to be backdated (which would be a very good thing to ask for), then phrasing it in terms of "but you didn't so therefore I'm entitled ..." wouldn't set a good tone for the start of your new employment relationship.
