    Hey guys,

I have an old (c. 2009) white macbook that needs a new motherboard and possibly a new battery. Is it worth the bother of fixing? I know it's pretty old but all i'd want it for is web browsing/ storing photos/ writing basic documents. My windows machine is banjaxxed and I don't really want to buy a cheap windows machine to replace it (because i don't use laptops enough, I have my ipad for most things, which i'd like to upgrade this year)

The cost of a logic board replacement when weighed against the rather high likelihood of other components starting to fail isn't worth it. 7 years is a good run, though.

If you can't afford a refurb, look into the second hand market.

I would guess that it isn't worth repairing given the age of it. It's a shame, but you've gotten a good run out of it!

Perhaps something like a chromebook would suit your needs?

Thanks for the replies. TBH I want to move back to using Apple products consistently (I haven't used to macbook in a few years) so I doubt I'd bother with Chromebook. Was toying with the idea of getting a MacMini set up in my office once I get it organised, so this was really just an idea for a stop-gap kinda measure.
