Dishwasher not heating water at one setting

    Hi there,

I'm having a problem with my dishwasher. It's a Whirlpool but I'm not sure of the make as I'm in a rental. It has three heat settings: 40 c, 50 c and 70 c. I usually use the 50 degree settings but the last few goes, the water hasn't been heating. I tried out the 70 degree cycle last night and that was definitely the heat it was supposed to be. I'm not sure of the 40 degree cycle.

What might the problem be if it is heating fine at one setting but not another?

Is the unit one of those with the controls on the door, if so it could be a broken wire near the hinge.

    Hey, yep it is!

I just tried the 40 degree cycle there and it also didn't heat.

Are dishwashers in any way linked to the water heater? As in if there is no hot water in the tank, does that have an effect?

Heated the water for an hour this morning then tried the 50 degree cycle, and it worked like normal.

I'm confused about that though, as I usually put the dishwasher on after 11pm or 12 am in the nightsaver hours when we have no hot water left so I don't know why it seemed dependent on having hot water this time.

That's odd, most dishwashers are cold fill only and the dishwasher itself heats up the water.
If it is failing only on one setting, then I would check the cabling.

Thanks! This is definitely outside my capabilities!
