I've to replace my drivers side window motor, went yesterday NCT on Sat :) going to put it though anyway and have already sourced a replacement motor from a GTI, does anyone know if they need to be recoded to my car, or are they a straight install.

I only got the window reg done about 12 months ago

Never heard of a window motor needing re-coding. Replaced one on a 03 VW beetle and 02 Audi A4 and it was just a straight swap in.

    Seat is also VAG

There is a module that is part of the the motor that reports error codes, just wondering if I could just replace the motor and not the module.

They are 2 separate units, see attached pic.
This is one I replaced on a 02 Audi A4, therefore I expect they are the same.

3 little tangs either side of unit to separate.

Next up, as of yesterday, the car is throwing an airbag error, there's no fault code on the code reader, any ideas what this could be.

Are you using VAG.COM or VCDS to read codes?

If not you probably need to.

    Was the window issue fixed?

If door card was removed, side impact sensor that is located there was probably unplugged and you will then get an airbag fault light.
Assuming everything is back together right, it will just need the code cleared.
