We live in Woodville on the edge of the town and it's a nice estate, but anywhere really in the town is good. There are nice areas round Coosan, Retreat and Monksland. In terms of amenities Athlone really does have a lot going for it. Good sports clubs, Gaa, Soccer, Rugby, Tennis, Rowing etc etc. The new cycle way is a massive addition alongside the regional sports centre. Great restaurants with huge variety. Not sure about schools yet but most around the area are supposed to be good. Best of luck with your move.

Will either of you have jobs? Where would you be working? Just to get an idea as to what part of the area would suit in that regard.

Would you prefer to live in town, housing estate, countryside?

No jobs yet but think job would be a commute so access to motorway important would like to live near amenities with a garden so probably town best option

Would suggest the Monksland/Bealnamulla area. It's beside the motorway. Very near Athlone town but still out a little. Athlone has some excellent restaurants, lots of shops, gaa, sporting clubs etc. There is plenty to do in Athlone for all ages.

I grew up in Retreat Heights which is just across the Road - M6 Motorway is literally 2 mins away , 3 Secondary Schools are literally 5 mins walk , 1 National School is 10 mins walk (Several More within 3-5 mins Drive) .Town Centre is 10-12 mins walk.

Beechpark is a good area in Athlone. Near the schools, shops, sports facilities, motorway and bus and rail connections and only 10 minutes walk from the town centre.

    Hello,

I would like to know what area in Athlone is best for raising a family, security, peaceful, no trouble around? Could anyone support?

Athlone in general is a very safe town with little trouble around. 1 or 2 dodgy areas but they are few and far between. The two below are areas i have lived in and loved and would fully recommend.

Monksland/Bealnamulla is an excellent area. Lots of very nice estates and quiet roads mixed in. Loads of young families in the area. Big national school in Bealnamulla and Colaiste Ciaran as a secondary school option not far away. It's on the bus route into town so even if you dont want to drive or have a car, you have access to everything in the town. Good pub/food at the Mill Bar and lots of great amenities such as an hotel, gyms, shops, everything you really need close to hand.

Barrymore/Hodson Bay/Kiltoom is also an excellent area if you're flush for cash. House Prices/Rents tend to be a good bit more out here, but it is an affluent area. Ballybay National school is an excellent school. Not on the bus route so you would need a car for access to town. Plenty of sports facilities in the area, GAA, Golf, Soccer, etc and the Golf Club offers up excellent food as a dining out option. Hodson Bay Hotel and a lot of amenities around the bay

Hello all. Looking to buy a house in athlone. Visited a property in valley court area. Would like to know how is that area to live in for a family with child? Heard few things such as these houses are mostly rented by students and the area is loud etc. Also if anybody knows how's the housing area called the Glenn in coosan athlone

I would be reluctant to move into Valley Court. It's a bit rough looking & yes students do rent there too.

The Glen in Coosan sounds preferable to me but I am not familiar with it.

The Glen looks a bit unloved. Looks primarily not well maintained rented houses.

That's true, doesn't look great. Great location though.
