Im in a situation where i might need to commute from Waterford to Kilkenny twice a day and need the cheapest option. Its about 40 mins down the Motorway so 80 mins total Motorway driving per day.

What would be a better option? 2.0 Mondeo or a small car such as any 1.0, 1.1 or something like that.

Ive never had a diesel or a small car. I drive a 1.6 petrol now.

What a better option if comfort or looks isnt a factor and cost is key?

1.0 will sweat during motorway driving and will consume a lot. 2.0 diesel is perfect for such application.

Of brand new Mondeos the diesel would be on that run.

The cheapest option would be to keep what you have.

I'd go for a diesel, little engined petrol cars absolutely stink at motorway driving and end up being really thirsty while trying to maintain motorway speeds. I drove a 3cylinder yaris courtesy car from Clonmel to Cork for 4 days and it was burning through petrol at an alarming rate compared to my car which is a 2.0 diesel, and usually ends up with the cruise set at 130ish on the motorway
