Cold Radiator - Tried all normal things...

    Hi All,

Noticed that the double rad in my landing was not getting hot and always felt like it was cooling down when all the other rads were baking hot...

So I decided to do the following

    1) Bled it - Some air came out but nothing major.
    2) Turned off all the rads in the house apart from this one - No improvement.
    3) Turned off OUT valve and turned on IN valve and opened the bleed valve I thought this would maybe force water into the rad and it would end up spouting out of bleed value - Nothing, nada zilch.

The radiator is baking at the bottom so water is passing through it but I think there is not enough water in the system. I had a look in my hot press and the gauge that measures pressure is like not registering anything. This used to be over 1 bar so I think the system is not being fed :/ What to check next?? I twiddled the value and opened fully, I remember doing this in the past and I would hear almost a whooshing noise. Now there is nothing.

I have very good cold water pressure which I believe is what feeds the mains.

All other rads appear normal and have bled them and they are roasting hot. I noticed a small leak which may have accounted for the water loss, Ive tightened so hopefully this will stop any more water from leaking from the system but why is no pressure coming into the system?

    X

This is a picture of my hotpress. I have turned on cold water taps upstairs to force the tank to refill and I can feel the mains feed into tank (arrows in pic) getting cold but the pipe that comes off that to the heating system is not.

Does this mean there is a blockage in the pipe or the red valve or the pressure value is broken?

More than likely the auto filling valve is gone
They have a tendency to stick and jam
More than likely your going to need a plumber
I would remove it altogether and get a manual fill loop fitted

Yeah I'm coming to this conclusion, untightened the nut above it and water came out so there is definitely pressure getting to it but it's stopping at that point.

So if I was to attempt to fix this myself without major reworks, replace like for like I could isolate the cold water pressure coming in by turning the red handle or cutting the pressure from under the sink if needs be. But the hot coming from below? I guess this would just be an unpressurized loop.

I'm prob just gonna call a plumber. I don't like water. What's the rough price for a this type of job?

Did you check that the valve on the automatic fill valve is open.the black knob on the underside of the valve
Close the red valve in your picture, open the black wheel head valve on the underneath of the automatic fill valve in your picture.then open red valve and see if you can get the pressure up to 1 bar- 1 1/4 bar.then close

If not the system will have to be drained down and a new valve or filling loop fitted

Yeah I opened it fully, closed it opened it again but the PSI reading does not change and stays at 0. If there was water moving through I would feel the pipe going cold but it remains tepid. I did use to open and close it before because in the past it used to allow too much pressure into the system and would cause the valve on my boiler to overflow. Now its the opposite it doesn't appear to be letting anything into the system.

This is essentially what I need to replace it with I believe

    Is this a DIY job?

Adjust screw on pressure reducing valve with a flathead screwdriver, if stuck this may kick it into action
