Is there a button in the middle you need to press or something?
Has it ever worked before for her?

Does handle turn at all? Does it feel light or hard to turn?
Did you open the console and have a look at the handle mechanism?

This is a k11 model yeah?

As colm asked, did it ever work?

    yes k11 model

no, it never worked..it tilts down but it won't slide back, it just stops at one half turn and then you can't turn the handle at all

Could be one of those ones that slides over the roof. Maybe turn it more in the direction you turn when you open it. If there's a button, press it while turning.

Does it slide outside or inside the roof?

it should slide inside the roof but doesn't...it gets in about half an inch and stops

Is there a sunshade and does it slide properly?

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 2,986 ✭✭✭philstar

yes there is a sunshade and it slides perfectly

how do you get at the sunroof mechanism, do you have to strip the roof?

Yeah, you need to drop the headlining, not a major job, just unclip the plastics covering the pillars and there will be some clips holding it on. Just make sure you don't damage it taking it out as it would be weak around where the sunroof is and could bend, probably not the end of the world on an old car though.

is it something i could tackle myself or should i leave it to the pro's?

how much would a garage charge for a job like this??

On such an old car, I'd have a go!
Just take the headlining down and look for any obstructions or broken pieces.
    Just don't break it more!
