Virgin Media connection dropping

I'm having issues with my connection dropping and several people I've spoken to report the same issue. I've been with them for years and this has been happening regularly, it only drops for a couple of minutes and will come back instantly if I switch the modem off and on again. I'm using UPC/Virgins router only as a modem as I use an Airport extreme as my router. I do have a double Nat as i need the ups modem to assign dhcp to my airport and then the airport assigns dhcp to all my other devices. Does anyone else have the same issues?

Does your Virgin gateway have a Modem Only mode? Mine here in the UK does and my Airport Extreme, when tested on it, and set to DHCP + NAT did not, of course, double NAT.

If your gateway doesn't have modem mode, then I assume that in the settings you can turn DHCP off in the gateway, set the AE to Bridge mode and allow the attached AE to provide the DHCP to the gateway.

As to your circuit dropping, if it drops on a wired connection, then perhaps a paste of your upstream/downstream modem stats might shed light on a circuit issue. If it's only dropping on a wireless connection, then it'll need a different approach to problem solving.

Their DNS servers are having issue this week. Havnt seen them comment though.

Switched to Google DNS and I'm fine for now.

Have you checked if you are on ds-lite? There are a lot of posts on this problem in the VM forum and some people have found that reverting to ipv4 has solved the problem for them.
