Got a booking confirmation email from the NCT this evening but I haven't made a booking. The details are correct and I am due a test in June. Do they make automatic bookings?

Someone booked you in. Or else someone else with the same reg as you booked themselves in but in all honesty, if that had been the case I dont see how it would have come to your email address.

I wonder did they pay for the test too?

Haha yeah they probably wouldn't be so lucky. :) payment is only taken at the centre. When it's booked online the payment is pre authorised but that is easily cancelled.

Maybe your parents / husband / wife booked it for you?

Was it some sort of reminder mail?

    What's the exact text?

How would they have the same reg? I thought every reg was unique

The VIN is unique. Anyone can get a number plate made up with any number on it.

I get that, but what's the benefit to booking an Nct with false plates that aren't registered to the vehicle?

OP how long have you had the car?

It's an NCT provisional booking email, when their system detects a car with an upcoming NCT expiry they automatically send on an email to the last registered email with a provisional booking in the last NCT test center the car was tested at.

You must contact NCTS to confirm the booking or it is automatically cancelled.

Here's an extract from what the email looks like:
    Dear Car Owner,

Our records indicate you previously booked an NCT using this email address for the above registration number. Our records indicate that you requested to receive notification of you NCT appointment by electronic means.

This vehicle is now due for its NCT and to help you comply with this legal requirement, we have made you a provisional appointment at the centre at which your vehicle was last tested or your local centre (see below).

    .....

If you are happy with this appointment then click here to confirm

Remember you must contact NCTS to confirm the appointment above.

If we do not hear from you, your appointment will be automatically cancelled 10 working days before the above appointment date (not including the day of the appointment).

If you wish to change the time, date or test centre then please click here or contact us using any of the methods below and we will do our best to accommodate you.
(All you need is your registration number and unique web booking number which you can find at the top of this email)

@ Atomic Pineapple, I thought they stopped doing that years back. We haven't had that for at least 5 years on either mine or my wifes car and we have an email address registered.

Illegally cloned car. Some innocent person could be driving around in a stolen car identical to the op. A dodgy person could have sold this to them with the OP's reg plate.
The car would look genuine and they could innocently have booked a test for 'their' car even though the real car belonged to the op and all they had was a stolen car of unknown origin with a false registration cert so that car wouldn't be registered to them at all.
It's very unlikely to be the case here though seeing as nct had ops email address.

Latest email for me just at the start of this year was a provisional booking email. Maybe its an option ticked somewhere?

Apologies for the hit and run on the thread. It was my mechanic who was doing some work on the car at the time and booked it in for me as the test was due.
