Watching the last scene of the season opener gave me a thought: Perhaps we're going to see counterparts of the seven in our characters as the long winter draws in?

    Father. - Davos?
Smith. - a return of Gendry? Or an allusion to Tryrion as the worker behind the Throne?
    Warrior. - Jon Snow
    Mother. - Danaerys
    Maiden. - Sansa?
    Crone. - Melissandre
    Stranger - Arya

    Anyone else seeing this?

What's the seven? My knowledge has gotten a bit rusty.

Religion of the Seven Kingdoms, the New Gods, basically the religion of the south of Westeros

I dunno, some of those seem like a stretch to me. Danaerys as the mother, Melissandre as the crone and Arya as the stranger make sense.

For the warrior you could have anyone who picks up a sword, axe or spear in the series so you I don't buy that connection.

Davos as the father I don't see the connection aside from he seems to be acting somewhat fatherly towards the lads in Castle Black but I think it's a stretch.

For the smith you don't actually have anyone, you have some vague reference to Tyrion or a character who everyone has forgotten about.

    Sansa is hardly a maiden?

Sansa's virginity is practically a character in it's own right in the TV series and while technically she wouldn't be considered a virgin after enduring being raped by Ramsey, you could argue that she's still quite a virginal character having never expressed any interest in sex and being the typical story-book maiden who enjoys needlework and tales of romance...

Jon as the warrior would be imho because his arc most resembles the "heroes journey" trope in fantasy.

I'm not sure we've seen the last of Gendry tbh. Kings' bastards have a historical record of popping up amidst power struggles for thrones and it would seem odd to have spent so much time developing the character only to forget about him entirely.

Davos as the father, well, we've seen him lose a son, we've seen him act fatherly to every young person he's encountered (Shireen, Gendry, Jon Snow etc.), he's stated that he only accepted his knighthood to give his children a better life than he had etc. and he seems destined to become the hand of the eventual King / Queen of Westeros so would seem a rather natural "father of the realm"...

I'm open to other suggestions for alternative candidates but it would just seem to me to be the kind of allusion GRRM likes to hide in the details of his books.

The High Sparrow could work as Father too, looks like that conflict will be pretty big this season.

Depending on...things, Brienne as Warrior rather than Jon? I'd say she's much more defined by her ability to fight than Jon is. Not that Jon's not pretty handy, but he's a bit more rounded in terms of interpersonal skills and tactical thinking than Brienne, Brienne's basically the warrior/knight that Sansa used to believe existed.

I think you could be on to something there!

Even if it's not something the show is doing it's an enjoyable way to look at the characters. The religious stuff was always one of my favourite things in the books, it's one of the most credible and interesting elements of the world building. Especially with the Seven, really resonant and seems like a religion that could have existed

I think it just means we will see more of the story of the Sparrow v the Crown, and Arya's story with the many faced god.
