Birds in the chimney

We have an open fire and the birds have babies in the chimney, I can hear them making noise. I am worried for them and we want to be able to light the fire without smoke coming back into the room.

How do I get them out safely?

There is no simple easy way of getting rid of them unless you just want kill the lot. Its either wait a few weeks until the birds are fully fledged and fly off or get a set of chimney brushes and push them out of it.

    Your choice :)

So you can't take them out and keep them alive?

Im no expert on birds but what I do know is that they wont survive until such time as are big enough to leave the nest on their own.

Of course if you contacted a bird club or people who look after bird sanctuaries or keep birds as pets then there may be a possibility that they could help buts its a slim chance though.

Wait a few weeks; they'll be gone, then get a chimney guard fitted. Won't happen again!

Really can't wait (have waited an entire week and need it in the next few days) :(
Hear them making noises and I'm really sad. If I could get them out safely I'd leave them in the garage or somewhere safe but it's just I wouldn't no where to start

There's no way to get them out safely it's either wait a small bit longer until they're gone and then use chimney brushes to clean out any nest or else use chimney brushes now and force them out. Either way you should get a chimney guard fitted after they're gone. I'd say just wait a small bit longer if you can.

On another note, the nest may have to be removed from above. Jackdaw nests can be impossible to clear out completely from the fireplace due to the way they force the twigs down in the centre creating a curve.
    These lads are serious engineers!
