Going from JSB to Illness benefit

Maybe someone can answer this for me.

My other half was made unemployed in september last year (has worked for 16 years without a break) and is currently on Job seekers benefit, so around 7 months into it.

She is currently ill with multiple aliments, so was advised to go onto illness benefit.

How does this work exactly, I know she has to fill out the corresponding social welfare forms from the doctor and hand them in, but does she need to sign off unemployment benefit or advise them off the change ?

And finally as she is 7 months into the 9 months off UB, how long exactly can she claim illness benefit for as she has used up the majority of her contributions with UB.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as cannot get through to the local office as it regularly rings out.

She just submits her completed illness benefit application form to the SW office, they will take it from there .
Her JSB will cease and the IB will commence.
As long as the GP keeps signing the certs, she can get IB for a maximum of 2 years, subject to a review by a SW doctor.
Her claim for IB is not linked to her JSB claim, its a new claim and she has enough PRSI from 2014to support her claim.

    hi

have similar query to OP but at the other end if of the scale, Claimed job seekers benefit for 7 months, then had major surgery and have been on illness benefit for nigh on 2 years, not sure whether if I am declared fit enough to go back to work do i revert back to job seekers for remaining 2 months or if declared not fit enough for work, what happens then?

Was working for 16 years non stop contributions before all this. Husband works so I would not be entitled to allowances

You will go back on to JB for the last 2 months of it as you jb claim links through illness benefit. Has anyone advised you in relation to invalidity pension? http://www.welfare.ie/en/Pages/Invalidity-Pension.aspx It might be worth you while applying.

hi thanks for replying, I have not been advised of anything, I have just been asked to fill in my first review form myself, although on illness benefit for some time Doctor has had to fill out a couple in the past, i have sent it back so will query the invalidity pension once they come back to me, again thanks for your help

Best to stay on IB for the time being, going back to JSB will only bring complications, just keep putting the certs in until your ready to go back to work.

My OH is doing it currently now and when she is 100% she will be going back to work when the Doc signs her off a fit for work.
