Hey there everyone, hope someone can help us out here. My wife and I are going on our first holiday in years and we are stumped on where to go. We've been out of the holiday loop so long we're afraid of making a bad decision.

    What we're looking for,

We're both 30. Looking for the sun and beaches somewhere in Europe. Would like to relax at hotel complex or beach during the day and then later party the night away with rest of them.

Are there any resorts that would have a relaxed scene during the day and great nightlife without the stereotypical drunken late teen messiness at night?

Any advice from you fine people would be very much appreciated.

Nerja in southern Spain would be ideal I think. Nice and chilled during th day and loads to to at night without being overly crowded.

    Caleta de Fuste in Fuerteventura

Would you not consider Florida? If you can go during the school term I'd highly recommend it. It's obviously more expensive but better value than Spain in my opinion. I went with the wife. Flew in and out of Orlando and drove down to Miami for a few days. The theme parks are unbelievable and there's just something so uplifting about the US and the people.

Yes Florida has crossed our mind alright even tho during school term isn't an option. Would a week be long enough there do you think?

You could do a week but 10 days to 2 weeks would be better ! Florida is fabulous

Barcelona could also be a contender ?

    Hi there
I have read your post. I would suggest Alicante in Spain as its a lovely city and it has everything such as a lovely beach and lots of sightseeing to do during the day and then at night it has a lovely relaxed nightlife and its also very safe and quiet with no drunks or anything like that. You can get there easily with Aer Lingus or Ryanair from Dublin or Cork. I know lots of people who went there and they said that its a beautiful city and that they would go back there again. It also gets quite hot during the summer with temperatures in the 30s.

I'd disagree with Alicante, the locals aren't friendly at all, hard to find places to eat that are welcoming to tourists, and there really isn't much to see there. The beach is just a bog standard city beach. Was loads of tar in the water when I was there and when I complained to the lifeguards they just shrugged their shoulders. I'd recommend Santander over Alicante any day. Friendly people, miles and miles of fantastic beaches, very cheap food and drink. Not many tourists at all. Just bring a Spanish phrasebook!

Puerto Del Carmen in Lanzarote is lovely, really chilled during the day. Nightlife isn't bad at night, no major clubs but plenty of nice bars and places to eat.

Benidorm is unrivalled for entertainment at night, but it might be a bit messy for you...I don't know.
The Levante beach is gorgeous though and food and drink is cheap as chips.

    Or what about Salou?
Well known for its' nightlife and picturesque scenery, it has a beautiful beach and is very popular with the Irish.

My parents have been going to Torremolinos for the past 15 years and they wouldn't go anywhere else. You could try there?

Puerto del Carmen is another I'd highly recommend also.

For years I poo-pooed the idea of Torremolinos, never having been there and probably heavily influenced by British TV shows like 'Benidorm', but Torremolinos is a grand spot, all the better for the 'beautiful people' finding it not to their taste and beggaring off to Fuengirola or Marbella.
Just back from a week there and have just booked another week in October.
