A little late this year but it's that time again time for our 4th annual Boards.ie PW Hall of fame class to be decided.

This was originally started by Dare2Defy but I believe I took over the running for D2D when he was too busy in either 2014 or 2015. I myself was running the draft this year so only now am getting around to this but here we go with how it works.
To vote, all you have to do is PM me your choices from the following categories:

    - 3 US/Canadian wrestlers
    - 1 International wrestler
    - 1 Tag Team
    - 1 Non-Wrestler (commentator, booker etc....)

However there will be a slight change this year as before PM submissions are to be made (I will announce in this thread and edit the title to say from when on they can be submitted) This thread will act as a place for people to discuss who in their opinion should be potential names for induction this year.

The previous names & classes inducted in the Boards.ie PW Hall of fame are always listed here in the hot thread links sticky

but... why not include them in the OP here too
The Complete Boards.ie Pro Wrestling Hall of Fame

    - Ric Flair
    - Hulk Hogan
    - Bruno Sammartino
    - The Undertaker
    - Shawn Michaels
    - Stone Cold Steve Austin
    - "Macho Man" Randy Savage
    - Bret "Hitman" Hart
    - Sting
    - The Rock
    - Kurt Angle
    - Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat

    - Mitsurharu Misawa
    - Eddie Guerrero
    - Kenta Kobashi
    - The Great Muta
    - Andre The Giant

    - The Dudleys
    - The Road Warriors (Hawk and Animal)
    - The British Bulldogs
    - Edge & Christian

    - Vince McMahon Jr
    - Jim Ross
    - Bobby "The Brain" Heenan
    - Paul Heyman

Should we have our first female entry (they don't have a seperate category and are eligable for any of the "wrestler" spots just like the men) ? Like Trish, Lita, Moolah, Chyna etc

How about the likes of Jake Roberts, Buddy Rodgers, Dusty Rhodes, Roddy Piper, Ted Dibiase, Mick Foley, Jerry Lawler, Nick Bockwinkel?

or a tag team like The brainbusters, The Funks, The Briscoes or even The Hardy's to complete the TLC tag teams in the HOF

International stars like Santo, Rikidozan, The Iron Shiek, Rey Mysterio, Fit Finlay, Big Daddy etc haven't made the list yet

or in the non wrestling who joins those big four? JJ Dillon, Eric Bischoff, Vince Russo, Cornette, Gene Okerlund...

I am sure their are many many left off from these names and many who maybe don't deserve mentioning this early (only the 4th class) but this is just to get the ball rolling

so to summarize... who should go in this year?

Who should be the final inductee to the 2016 boards.ie HOF? 10 votes

    Jim Johnston

    Jimmy Hart

My choices if I had to vote right now would be :

    Daniel Bryan/Bryan Danielson
    Jerry "The King" Lawler
    Terry Funk

    Jushin Thunder Liger

    The Brainbusters

    Jim Cornette

But I am open to debate on why I should change my votes

Perfect example of what I was saying about there being so many options who deserve mentioning in this conversation right there.

I only quickly threw up some potential names but forgot all about now retired Danielson, the legend that is Liger plus I had Funk as a possible tag team inductee along with Dory.

tbh it's hard to argue against any name as they are all such legends but are they bigger names than a Piper, Dusty or DiBiase for example hmm..,

Plenty of names I didn't put into the non wrestling category too like Jim Johnston for example

don't ask Jay though #GarvinforHOF :pac:

But why should it come down to how much bigger their name is if they are all pretty much household names in the industry? Anyone nominated is gonna be a "big" name so why not use what they did in the ring and on the mic as criteria to separate them.

Funk, Lawler and Bryan would rank as a 10 in nearly every conceivable category IMO. Great as heels, check. Great as faces, check. Great feuds, check. Great matches, check. Great tag workers, check. Great promos, check.

Liger and The 'Busters I dont even think I need to make a case for :pac:

Cornette I expect will be the landslide winner of non wrestler

tbh I wasn't necessarily arguing against your guys just throwing it out there because I would not be surprised if others wanted those argueably bigger names.

They might all be 10s but it's still early in the game for a HOF so the likes of a Piper or a Dibiase are argueably a 10 too

Dunno if I'd agree on Cornette but it wouldn't surprise me either, I guess a lot would be decided on what kinda group we have on boards atm a certain demographic would obviously be big fans of his but much younger fans might only know him as that guy holding a tennis racket who rants on youtube.

We currently have the iconic boss, The two argueably best/most iconic ever commentators and managers (I'm putting Heenan in both categories), why not go for backstag interviewer (Mean Gene) or Music man (Jim Johnston)

Personally I'd agree with you on BWA tag team champions ( :pac: ) Arn & Tully although I woulda had them ahead of E&C who were already voted in too.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,469 ✭✭✭LeeJM

Ah I know you werent arguing against them. I was just using the opportunity to forward my argument for why those 3 should go in ahead of the so called "bigger" names. Id be shocked if Corny isnt the non wrestler selected. And it would take a great argument for me not to select Arn & Tully as the tag team

    Harley Race
    Roddy Piper
    Brock Lesnar

Rey Mysterio (watched his match with Eddie at Halloween Havoc '97 recently, so good)

    APA

    Eric Bischoff

I think Trish Stratus should be the first woman entered.

So is the International category basically you werent born in North America? It doesnt matter where you spent most of your career. So for example Sheamus would be considered international yet he has wrestled the majority of his career in North America.

    Jimmy Hart
    Roddy Piper
    Triple H
    Dusty Rhodes

    Rey Mysterio

    The Hardy Boyz

Pat Patterson for creating the Royal Rumble, and apparently been instrumental in the booking of many classic matches.

    Roddy Piper
    Triple H
    Dusty Rhodes

    Rey Mysterio

    The Hardy Boyz

This would be my shout too. But I would have Liger instead of Rey. Was a massive name in Japan and has only gotten bigger over the years.

Hardyz are criminally underrated in the grand scheme of things and given the the amount of boardies that love the TLC three. They should really go in.

Can a manager or valet be included in non wrestler category?

    Yeah they can.

There are so many in that category that could be voted for although I wouldn't be surprised if a few miss out because they are considered a wrestler too so people are more inclined to vote for a Bischoff or whomever first. For example Jesse Ventura or the already mentioned Pat Patterson.

and yeah Sheamo would be eligable for the international category but one would think it's too early for that. It was originally a non US category but one year too many people voted for Bret in the wrong category that he got in and that one became US/Canadian.

Names so far mentioned (outside the OP): Buddy Rodgers, Harley Race, Bryan Danielson, Roddy Piper, Dusty Rhodes, Ted Dibiase, Triple H, Brock Lesnar, Larry Zbyszko, Bob Backlund, Jerry Lawler, Trish Stratus

Rey Mysterio, Jushin Liger, Fit Finlay,

The APA, THe Hardyz, Demolition, The Hart Foundation, The Brainbusters

JJ Dillon, Gene Okerlund, Jim Cornette, Eric Bishoff, Pat Patterson, Jimmy Hart, Jim Johnston

I'll officially propose Sheamo as a candidate.

We are less than impressed with him of late but as it boards.ie HOF it's only right the the first Irish born WWE champion should be in.

When you step back and look at it (especially as Irishmen/women), his achievements are amazing. I hope in time he will be looked at as something truly special.

Off the top of my head I'd probably vote for:

    - 3 US/Canadian wrestlers: Daniel Bryan, Kane, Ted DiBiase Snr.
    - 1 International wrestler - Jushin Liger
    - 1 Tag Team - Demolition
    - 1 Non-Wrestler - I'd probably back the Cornette vote.

okay starting now PM Votes will be accepted

doesn't seem to be much discussion just people stating names (I'm going to throw regal into the mix now too) but maybe seeing some of those names has made you think twice...

The Votes have been cast and we have our class of 2016 but...

The non wrestling category ended up as a tie so before I announce who you voted for (very hard to argue with any of this years class) you have one last chance.

24hr poll added: The Music Man Jim Johnston vs The Mouth from the south Jimmy Hart

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,112 ✭✭✭ShagNastii

Both very worthy but Jim Johnson will be getting my vote. He has given so much to wrestling and the WWE yet probably 90% of folk don't know who he is.

tbh as the thing said they do hold the records for both the single longest tag title reign and the most combined days as reigning champions in the WWF so it's not really a surprise people would vote em in. Personally I think (should remember but meh) I voted for Arn & Tully.

and yeah def think that is a fine class and I'd find it hard to argue against any of the singles guys for sure.

Ah I just never liked a Demolision as in ring workers, all gimmick and theme song, but never a good team to watch.
