My friend bought a 02 beemer . Car has nothing on it so she doesnt drive it any further than town. So she went to drive her for a bit cos she was only after getting car done to see how she went. But car sliped and went into railings. She wasnt hurt or anything. But ahe said she panicked and rang up the gards filing for theft. Is there anything she could do?

Yes, admit her wrong doing and take her punishment.

I highly doubt she'll get any sympathy here.

I'm not sure. She left the scene I presume? What have the Gards said? Have they found the car?

    Does she have a licence?

Does the car have insurance motor tax nct?

Then it's down to filing a false report. Leaving the scene of an accident but if no one is injured that's unlikely.

She has a licence and nothing on the car as she was getting her done up. As in putting few things and replacing parts.

Now that the Gardaí know that the untaxed, uninsured 02 BMW recently reported stolen that they found wrapped around a railings was not in fact stolen, it'll make their job a bit easier.

She should fess up before she digs the hole too deep.

What will that do her. Licence revoked?

I've no idea really, but that could be the smallest of her worries.
She's just made a false report - that sounds far more serious.

Would there be CCTV in the area?

3 points for no insurance, 3 points for no nct. 5 points on conviction.

How did she explain how the thieves got the keys?

So your friend thinks it's ok to "drive it any further than town" with out NCT, Taxor insurance. If this story is true which I hope not she deserves jail for when crashing making a false theft report.

If she is charged with no insurance at least 2 year ban. She risks jail on the false report. And your friend will have you to thank if story is true and AGS now have proof from you.

If there isn't CCTV in the area. The Gardai might find it hard to prove unless there were witnesses willing to identify her. Apart from your thread.
It's hard to know how your friend would work out in court it would all depend on the judge but she's probably get a driving ban for starters.

Was she regularly driving it "to town" without tax, nct and insurance? I reckon the guards will find this out from her neighbours if she was. Madness to drive anywhere without insurance at the very least, even a very short distance. Sooner she tells the truth, the better.

Well it looks like it won't be long until the guards find out, airing it on board's.ie

I don't think there will be many 02 BMW's in the same scenario nation wide.

Ireland's Dumbest criminals at it's most sensational.
